OK, what i'm after is an exhaust for my Westfield S8. What i'd like is the manifolds to come straight out of the body and sweep down the outside rather than hugging the engine and coming out at the bottom. I realise this would be easy if I could take the car to a specialist exhaust manufacturer where they could measure and check constantly but my car is only half built.

Does anyone know of a company who has done this sort of thing before and could do it from previous drawings, photos, memory, knowledge of the car etc?

MGB Hive do MGRV8 manifolds in stainless steel which must be similar to what you described.

They are fairly close to you at Wisbech PE13 4JE you could ring them or go over and see a pair.

Having had another look I don't think i'm going to be able to achieve what I want due to a couple of chassis crossmembers in the way. By the time I've cleared those i'ts nearly at the bottom already.

I do have a couple of V8 block huggers which are 4 to 1, 1 1/2 pipes with a 1 1/2 outlet. Will these be suitable for a standard RV8 3.5 or do I need a larger bore?

My opinion yes 1.5 inch is fine - that is what I have on the GT40

I've just ordered an 'underslung' system for my car from JP Exhausts in Macclesfield. For that system I think 1.5" is all they could squeeze in.

I think you are right, you can't get the manifold to come straight out - the chassis is in the way. They infamous 'Flymo' Westfield has them but that's a heavily modified car.

I take it you were thinking of a system a bit like the Dax Rush?

Yes that's exactly what I was thinking about.

So with huggers fitted that leaves me with two 90 degree bends and silencers.

Can you think of anything I could use to model the required pipes to use as a template for an exhaust manufacturer. Toilet rolls sellotaped together is a bit gash.

Make the template in 22mm copper pipe using a hand bender? That would give the angles etc ok. Great fun.

Remember though - good as stainless looks it will "blue" with the heat

It will also radiate more heat than mild steel

It will also be noisier than mild steel

Muld steel ceramic "chrome" finish will give the best look and help reducing under bonnet temps

Oh Ian your such a kill joy.

I had the solution in my head and now you've gone and thrown several of those contributor spanners in the works. I would love the Rolls Royce solution but as I said earlier my car is only half built and would not be able to take it anywhere. So I really need an off the shelf system thats been done for the Westy S8 before.

There are several manufacturers for se7ens and one well known one is Powerspeed in Kent. A very long story but I wish I had gone to them for my Dax Rush V8 system. In the end I went to Simpsons in Slough and then Kevin Butler near Cambridge. If you want my opinion of these two PM me.

I have heard that Tube engineers made Stainless Exhaust for Luego Sportscars before the old business went bust. I phone call revealed exhausts can be made by them. I have no idea how good they are it might be worth a punt
