I have a 3.5 EFi RV8 out of a 1988 range rover, what parts are compatible with a 4.6 RV8 since i've just been offered the block?

front cover, sump, cam, heads. Bore and bearing sizes are different so no go on pistons rods or crank. Is it a bare block or shortblock? EFI would be struggling but would work.

i thought the efi could take allot more?
sounds good to me, i don't know how complete the engine is yet, waiting for more info.

I built a 4.6 using many 3.5 parts.
My 3.5 was from an SD1 so it had a cam driven oil pump and a dizzy. I don't know what the exact spec of a 3.5 EFI engine is but if it similar to my old 3.5 then the following can be used....
Heads (but they will need a skim to get the CR up)
Front cover
Water pump
Oil pump,
Dizzy
Sump
Bellhousing
Inlet manifold (well the Edelbrock one will fit at any rate but it might need the faces skimming)
Front damper (a spacer will be required, they cost about 7 quid)
Flywheel
Camshaft and followers
Push rods (I used crane adjustables)
Rocker shafts and rockers
Oil pick up
Timing chain and gears (I used a vernier set)
This is of course assuming that all of the above is in good condition, you may find that the cam, followers, rockers and rocker shafts are all worn out even if the 3.5 seemed to be a good runner!
What you basically need is a "short" 4.6 engine, that is a block, crank, rods and pistons from a 4.6.
The result is an engine that Rover never built, i.e a non-serp large bore RV8 but that does not matter. I can assure you that it works! (mine knocks out 285 BHP and 300 ftlbs)

The EFi is mapped for a certain cam / capacity etc. It would run out of steam with a 4.6 running full chat unless you got a mappable ECU. You might also need bigger injectors, a different airflow meter etc to cope with the increased demands.
If you fit 3.5 stuff to a 4.6, you also need a spacer to go on the end of the crank (I have a couple...) as the 4.6 crank nose is longer.
If you fit a remote oil filter, then you have to counterbore one of the crossbolts.
But it's all pretty straightforward.
