Sound like air injection pipes fittings, better known as smog pipes.

smog pipes? what would they be used for? may have come from a military landrover

It is an air injection system that pumps fresh air into the exhaust in the hope of reducing CO emisions (ie compleet the combustion of co to co2), especially at idle, common on military derived landrovers and 101FCs (especially radio vehicles) the aim here being not the usual get it through the MOT emisions but used to give those who have to work around a vehicle that spends alot of it's time stationary and at idle longer before they get carbon monoxide poisening.

I think they pump air into the exhaust to dilute the emissions, I doubt the militarty are too worried about emissions though?!

I think that's the "pulsair" system. This thread explains

Just a quick squirt of artists "spraymount" over your numberplate like all the golf boys around us do.

I have a 'Secondary Air System' on my Audi which pumps a small amount of air into the exhaust.
One mechanic in Sheffield (owns a german car specialist garage) told me that the pump, which was faltering a little, pumped air into the inlet manifold and this heated the cats up quicker. I told him I thought he was telling me a story, but he assured me that causing this small amount of pressure in the induction system helped with emissions. I then asked that if this tiny little air pump could pressurise the induction system, why did I have to f***ing great turbochargers? before wandering off whistling the theme tune to jackanory
I digress.
It blows air into the exhaust causing a secondary burn of the gases, which both burn off any unburnt fuel, but more importantly; it gets the catalytic converters to running temperature more quickly.

I have these holes in one of my heads that I am fitting, anyone any idea of the bolt sizes I will need to blank them off?
