hello all,

Anyone know the cranking speed of the 4.6 engine on the starter...

Trying to get my v8 started and had a few battery issues and my vems setup is only showing 123rpm when cranking....

Is this enough to start the engine??

My cranking theshold in vems is set to 300.

Are these settings ok.

cheers

scott turn on the datalogger,,
then crank it over,
then turn datalog off,
speak to MWFire on vems he will be able to see whats wrong,

Does it try and fire at all?

BTW: i use a high torque starter (1.5kw) and get 400rpm while cranking mate

cheers

will give that a try tomorrow...head in the shed now.

Looks like my dms red top is at only 50% capacity...so need more charge.

Spent all day going through lots of stuff i still dont understand..

anyway i found that...

injector firing order is correct
ignition firing was incorrect - so corrected
All the tables were fubbard...after going from 1.1.44 to 1.1.59.
Looks like a have petrol been injected...need to see if i have spark tomorrow.

Still on the learning curve....just need a rest

If you have been injecting without the plugs firing the mixture, pull the plugs, turn the engine over to get any excess fuel out of the engine, and, if you have some, fit new plugs, otherwise dry them off with a blow torch.

I've just check some of my old logs that I had started before the engine fired and I was seeing the starter motor spinning instantly at 150rpm and raising to about 250rpm before the engine started to fire and start on its own accord. The cranking threshold I also have set to 300rpm and its fine.

cheers all,

Found this afternoon that the ignition fuse (7.5a) was blown,

So now getting fuel to ignite, but still not running, just popping on one side for the mo.

I am sure all the vems setings are knacked up after going from 1.1.44 to 1.1.59.

Problem looks like to much fuel and ingition on odd bank only.

So will send tony a pm about checking my msq file.

Didnt expect this part of the engine to be easy...lol.

Just to be clear - the cranking theshold is the speed at which the engine is considered to be running of its own accord and therefore cranking enrichments etc are switched off.
It is not the speed that you expect the engine to turn at when cranking via the starter.

Sorry to butt in, What brand High Torque starter are you using Tony? 400 rpm is awesome. Might even get over 300 with our 11-1 plus blower. Cheers.

hiya,

So much info with this VEMS is not defined properly....or its hard to find what all the settings mean....

Just trying to make sure its not a silly setting, stopping it working.

Learning fast...but its making my head hurt...

I bought it via Ebay via this company,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Range-Rover-V8-to ... 3ca7997eef

BUT on the box it has a company name in germany i think,
will try and pop over and grab the box this week,
as may be cheaper to deal direct as it took 3 weeks for my starter to arrive as i kept getting told it was in transit,
turned out it was sent the day i threatened to take my order else where and wanted a refund,
