Hi just a quick question, would rover p6 manifolds be ok to use with turbos, i thought i could turn them upside down and make plates to fit the turbos to??

Upside down ? they can be mounted to the front for clearence, but not upside down !

not the turbos , i thought about the manifolds being turned upside down and swapped over, so the flanges match rich

nope... went and dug out my P6 and LR heads and P6 manifolds, won't fit. Now way, No how.

i take it the p6 heads and exhaust ports and bolt patterns are a different to the sd1 heads then? rich

you can make them face forward or rearwards, but not upside down, There is a company offering cast turbo manifolds, cant remember who tho,

If you look at the heads, the bolts are on the top on one side, and the bottom on the other. Flip the manifolds back to front and they still line up, flip them upside down and the bolt holes on the manifolds and the heads, are on the same side, but at vertical opposites.

if they bolt on....you can make em work.


but reversed pointing down is fine, then link them with a pipe etc

Thanks for the replies all, i was just being lazy and hoping i could get out of making some. Idid find some cast ones for turbos ,but to much money. Looks like i need some gas pipe instead, so with the turbos placed to the front of the engine with 1 pipe coming from the back exhaust port and the other 3 ports welded to it be ok?? rich

Just make a simple log design.

it may not be operfect, but its simple and will work.

there the sought i was thinking of, thanks for that. I know forged pistons are best to use, but would standard low comp 3.9 pistons be ok for 500ish bhp if they were ceramic coated. Would like to use as much standard stuff as i can.??rich

the 3.9 pistons are 8;13 to 1. i can get some cheap, but if there no good then forged it will have to be.

I think it depends on the boost Rich, not sure about ceramic coating- I'm still itching for someone to try cryogenic treated stuff to compare it to standard before treatment!

If the pistons are of decent construction, and do not have any oil control SLOTS, then they should be ok.

If they have slots...they're crap and will likely break very easily.

to be a pain , the slots that you find in standard rover pistons??, better ring them and find out what they have in these ones rich just rang and these have 2 slots in them, 1 either side above the gudgeon pin. They seem to think they would be ok for upto 5 bar. Thats not very high for twin turbos is it rich
