My ignition will be fairly basic, dissy coil etc however I will be using a MSD BTM for retarding the spark under boost. The only thing I need to know is what dissy will I be best using? I cant afford a new MSD or Mallory one, so am I best with a:

Standard Range Rover electronic dissy

Points dissy

Points dissy converted to electronic

I have used the Mallory magnetic dizzy on my motor and yes it is pricey but as I have said before on another thread, how about looking at Summit Racing.
The exchange rate is getting better and better all the time.
Failing that I would go for an all electric unit, how about trying Aldon for a bespoke unit?
cheers

Yes a Mallory would be nice..... I'm just trying to remember that I still have lots of little bits to buy (probably) as well!!! It's just the compatability with the BTM I'm not sure about, maybe I should try asking MSD if it is compatable! Tony maybe you could let me know what sort of £ you would be after if you do have it...

If Topcat is not interested in the unilite, I am.

I would stick with the Rover electronic unit. Points are frankly sh*t.
A proper constant energy system is so superior I can't believe anybody still makes points based systems!

I second what Chris says. Unilite stands far to hight and looks like a telescope, more bling than anything else

Forgot about the height- the dissy sits behind the blower belt underneath the snout so it may not fit... anyone know how much higher it sits than a normal dissy?

I've tried a few. IMO the best and simplest is the Bosch based HEI Australian built Scorcher distributor with custom advance curve using new billet body filled with all common and cheaply available Bosch parts including the cap, rotor button and module. Built by Performance Ignitions in Melbourne, and they can do one in a day for Rover/P76 applications

You can either specify the advance curve, or they can do a recommended one for you. They give you a spec sheet on the dizzy with the Bosch part numbers in case you ever need any replacement parts, though I've never had to repair/replace anything on them in 15 years.
