Hi

I'm after a bit of advice really.

I have been running a 3.9 Hot Wire injection system out of a Rangie in my 90 for a couple of years now. I have never been able to get it running just right.
Anyway recently the orginal 3.9 has developed a thirst for water and a written off 3.9 Disco ES came up for cheap money and it still drove so I know the motor and all the electrics are and ecu are all ok and there are no issues with it.

Anyway I have spent the last two Sundays removing the loom, engine and anything the loom touched. There is a lot more to the Disco loom then the old hotwire loom. Strange boxes with all black cables. Lambda sensors.

First question am I best off using the new loom with Lambda sensors and strange black boxes or stick with the old loom with a lot less going on?
Second question dependant on the first question. If I go with the new loom does anyone know points threads what I can remove for the loom because I hope I don't need it all.
Third Question still dependant on the first. If I use the old loom I presume I can't use the ECU from the Disco loom because there is no looms for the Lambda sensors?

First thing I would suggest is to get a wiring diagram before you start playing with looms! Haynes manuals have very good ones, but if you dont want to spend 15 quid just for the diagram, there are many Landrover resources online that will do a pdf of the Haynes diagrams.

I would definitely get hold of some wiring diagrams so you can work out what all the bits & bobs are actually for.

I got my 3.9 engine and loom from seperate places to put into my series hybrid. The engine had lambda sensors but not on the loom. I completley stripped the loom using the sticky on this forum and a picture of the ecu plug IIRC on RPI eng. web site removing all the stuff I didnt want, i.e air con ect.
I did this using a multi meter too beep out the wires on the ECU plug to make sure I removed the correct wire. The ECU was from where I got the engine, which used to run lamdas, and everything worked fine!

I believe that the rover injection system is so pants that it probably wouldnt even notice that the lambdas were there or not! As long as it gets the coil neg signal it just turns everything to "on"

May seem like a rather over board answer but I wouldnt bother with another rover loom. While it all off and if your planning to keep the vehicle for a while get rid of the rover and get a proper engine managment!

If your ecu is fitted with one "tune resistor" it looks for lambdas

If fitted with another value resistor it does not look for the lambdas
