Seen this curious piece at an autojumble.
The guy selling it says it came from a 1962 Pontiac Tempest with a factory fitted Turbo charged Buick 215!!!
The manifold was certainly cast to take the turbo flange. Defiantly not a modified item.
Anybody seen one before?? or even read about it??

They did do a factory turbo version of that engine, so it would make sense.
Bit of a rarity I would say!

Yes turbo version of the Oldsmobile 215 called Jetfire which made a little over 200BHP eith approx 5psi boost, wasn't particularly effective as it ran out of breath at around 4700RPM and a lot of them were swapped for 4 barrel carb and intake which is probably why this is still all in one piece.
The engine also ran 10.75/1 compression and needed an odd additive mixture to control detonation from a seperate resevoir and once this had been used boost was cut to avoid destroying the engine.
Just out of curiosity what was he asking for it.

He was asking $500 or best offer! thanks for the info I had never heard of a turbo 215, the exhaust must have been quite complex and a lot of bonnet clearance needed!

Really only of interest to restorers as it has no real performance potential.
As I said earlier most wer swapped for the 4 Barrel carb and inlet as this produced about the same power and better drivabilty without having to worry about running out of the anti detonation mixture.

More than a bit cheesy I would say! Has anyone ever impressed a woman with acceleration?? In my experience the reality would have been more like.
