40mm idf's

i can get a set of 4 idf's cheap but i am a bit worried that they will be undersized. what is the max size choke that can be fitted and can they be run without chokes?
engine is a 3.9.

otheraise standard 3.9 should be ok for a road engine, probably up to stage n3 heads and a mild road cam. Not sure what max choke size is but you need them or no ventury effect. just had a google, looks like a 28mm is a "standard" ish size, probably be good to about 240bhp . Do you know someone who can set them up?

i know idf's can get up to a 34mm choke, drla can go 36mm. i can get both types. drla are going to be an extra £20 for a set tho.
where can i get manifolds from and how much are they?

34 chokes should be fine for a road engine, IDFs would be better as they are more manifolds for them, they come up for the rover from time to time on Ebay. The GT 40 boys probably are you best bet for getting one. If you tell Ian Anderson where you can get 4 IDFs cheep he will probably be a very happy man and help you find a manifold.

Yes I would! But I would expect a manifold and 4 carbs with set up wuld be in the region of £2500 - £3000 for new (Webcon happens to be a mile from my home and I cannot talk them into a "demo set")
Second hand is anyones bet!

i can get a set of supposedly very good idf / drla's for just a tad over £400. but the max size he can get is 40mm.

IDf = weber
DLRA = Delorto
Which are you looking at?
Webers seem to command higher prices
Most Weber sets I have seen have been on a single piece manifold
But of course it does not neet to be that way
I have also seen a manifold with 4 webers on behind the other so that one side feeds into left cylinger and other into right!
They are not that common and prices vary wildly Try Webcon if you are wanting new

DRLAs are the best, though very similar to the weber, though its been said they are slightly better
Got a set myself for my 3.5 - cant recall off hand what size they are...

i managed to get 2 drla carbs for £72 as they were mispelt on ebay lol.
should i use 34mm chokes or 36mm? i still need another 2.

thats pretty good value... are they originals or the cheaper spanish reproductions?
i would imagine 36mm chokes for a 3.9 but i stand to be corrected

they are original ones, look like they need a rebuild but they have not arrived yet, i am rebuilding them no matter what tho, as i am having to buy 2 seperate sets of carbs.

Selecting choke sizes is all part of the setting up of these carbs, from memory people end up with either 36s or 34s even in 48 webbers on the rover, I would start with the 36s and be ready to change them when you get on a rolling road.
