Which 4wd transaxle gearbox?

Hi all im trying to find a 4wd transaxle gearbox which can be mated to a rover v8
Ive found a porsche carrera 4s tiptronic box but lwill not work as it looks like gearbox sits in front of the engine with the drive for the front wheels going out the end of the box
Engine needs to be mid car with gearbox behind it + prop for front diff coming past bellhousing + engine
Anyone got any ideas what box i could use?
Engine + box need to be this way round as its going in a hatchback car + not enough room after the rear wheel for engine to be after the box
All help is greatly appreciated

Stay with 2wd, I'm sure the relatively low power a rover V8 puts out will easily be controllable with just rear wheel drive, 4wd will sap a lot of it.

The only box i'm aware of with that layout, is the one Audi use in the R8.
Its a transaxle, with the driveshafts for the rear wheels coming off the sides of the box, then a prop running forwards past the engine to the front end.
Aint gonna be a cheap option though!

Quaif do a box to that spec, big money though, otherwise it is a case of taking somthing like the Audi 100/200/A6/A8 4wd transaxel and bringing the drive that would normally go to the rear wheels forward under the box and under the engine. That'll be fun

Metro 6R4
I believe the drive to the front actually ran through the engine sump
But don't expect it to be cheap

Hi
6R4 is a bit of an oddity, the engine is infront of the rear axel line , but behind the gearbox with the rear diff in the sump.

I i had the room to have v8 after the box it wouldnt be a proble + would open up lots of gearbox options
Thing is i want the v8 to be running at least 400bhp so not only do i need a box that will cope (ish) with that power id like it to be 4wd as with the car being so short + only rear wheel drive, could be a bit of handful
I looked down the 6r4 route a while back + there was an ex works dog box on 6r4.com with an asking price of £10k, bit too much cash
Might have to stick with rwd if 6r4 + r8 boxes are the only options,
Any one got any ides which 2wd transaxle box would be best to got for bearing in mind the power out put + the box needing to be as short as poss
Not asking much am i

It all depends on what you want the box to do / propel on a track car I would say
Cheapest VW
Can be made to handle the power
Renault UN1 - handles up to 400hp without mods - after that the input shaft needs changed for a 1 piece unit and the overhung 5th is ify on big torque applications (again can be modified)
Then there are a range of VW / Audi boxes but they suffer from bad ratios for a V8 (unless you get the right box - (diesels)) Again at 400 / 450hp reaching their limits and need side case modifications
Then Elite
Then the range of Porsche boxes - the 930 being the strongest
Then a ZF
Then a Mendola
Then a ZFQ (Quaife remake on same size as 1960's box)
Then Ricardo
Then some of Wanni's wonderful creations
And I've probably missed some like Citroen, Merc van etc.
If you want more info on transaxles log on to GT40s.com and do a search - you will be there for many months! (You will need to register and log on (free) for the best search functions)

Its not a track/race car, just a road special but will be used hard + probably see the odd track day + a couple of trips to the nurbergring
the other thing is ive spoken to frank at wealden engineering who can supply a bellhousing for the renault inc clutch bearing + fork but around £600
Is there anyone who does cheaper conversion kits?
Ive seen them for a v8 - t5 box at alot less
Cheers
