Rover v8 manifold mods

Have seen topics on cutting off the top of the standard v8 manifold. My intention is to fit a Weber 38dgms.
However it seems like there may be a problem with the manifold water jacket. My manifold has core plugs fitted on the top and side of the carb tower. Has anyone tried cutting the top off one of these before? Has anyone any experience of fitting the weber on the V8 3.5 engine? Do I leave the port barrier in and let one barrel of the carb feed each side of the manifold, or do I, as previously shown, make a plenum in the middle?

Hello Dave,

The Rover inlet manifold with the pent roof that you have is a 180 degree dual plane low rise design.

Each side of the tower is totally isolated from the other side, and when equipped with twin SU or Zenith carburettors each will feed the cylinders at each end on their own side along with the two middle cylinders on the opposite bank.

Weber carburettors are a common performance addition to the Rover V8, and there are suitable manifolds designed specifically for such a carburettor.

It may well be much easier to obtain one such manifold and fit your Weber to it.

I've never seen a manifold specifically made for a 38DGMS/DGAS carb. I thought the usual route *was* to cut the top of the stock SU manifold? There probably are issues with the water jackets though. Maybe a nice thick plate between the carb and the manifold to seal things off?

I've got a P6 manifold with a knackered tower, so you can buy that of me for a total bargain and experiment with it?

Dave,

Are you thinking of doing this for height issues? if not you'd be better off keeping the the SU's performance wise if that is what you have.
