Setting up Holley (racing idle)

Hi, just bolted a holley 390/offy 360 onto my 3.5 rangie. All the cables, hoses etc are sorted out and it runs the engine ok without cutting out. I can't seem to get it idling below about 1500 revs though. It drops to sensible revs (500ish) when not in park or neutral though?

I've tried playing with the idle adjustment screws but they don't seem to do much and I'm pretty sure the timing is ok-ish.

Just trying to get it running well enough for a drive to the garage... any thoughts?

sorry for another daft question, cheers again!

Don't know if it's any help, but when I changed my engine from SU's to an Edelbrock, I didn't put a PCV in the breather line, and it ticked over at about 1400rpm. Fitted a valve to the top of the flame trap and the tickover went down to 800.

Hi cheers

My mate just had a look, he adjusted the throttle cable and got it idling fine  Carb is full of crap so its going to need a good clean up though. he also said about the flame trap, need to get a pipe to the air filter for it...

never ending!

Grant just to clarify, for the vacuum side of the vent system you need a flame trap going to a PCV (positive crankshaft ventilation) valve going to the carb or to the filter base if you have that facility, the other cover just need a filter as that is where the air gets sucked in.
