i have 3.5 vitesse engine in my mg rv8 replica ,it got a hotwire injuction, my problem is 'pinking' which is very bad if i give it stick as is reving 2000 + upwards If just floor it from say 30mph in 4th gear i cant hear it - its when the revs start to build up ..... my timing is set at 8 btdc ive retarded it to almost 0 to see if it makes any difference, but it didnt. the only thing that missing on my hotwire system is the road speed trasducer which makes it stall at some road junctions , But i was wondering could that make it run very lean mixture that might cause my pinking problem????????? an air leak on the inlet side of things

Get a can of easy start

Have the engine idling and spray the stuff around all joints - the revs will rise when it sucks in the easy start

:?: I have now fitted the roadspeed transducer , and that has helped with the stalling at junctions. I have also checked for air leaks and cant find any, Im still getting bad 'pinking' ???? i checked the CO and that is about 4% at tickover But does go down alot when the revs go up ?? any ideas? other than give up on hotwire and put a weber on it.......... Steve,

Don't know if you spotted this, it's an excellent article on how to troubleshoot a Hotwire system.

Also, do you have the correct plugs in it?
