Got the opportunity to get an R380 gearbox, currently running an SD1 LT77. The R380 is coming out of a landy, so will it work - will it bolt upto my bellhousing no probs? can I use my original linkage?
what so of price does a good one normally go for?
cheers

Will the box from the landy be the four wheel drive version complete with LT230 transfer box....?

probably, but can't you just unbolt the transfer box?

Yes, but you'll need a 2WD output housing, output shaft, drive flange etc etc - none of which are common to your LT77.
Also (obviously) you'll need to source from a V8 application - diesel bellhousing is totally different and the input shaft is different length.

My advice is to look at things very very carefully. Take a look at my post in the engines area called 'Torque to turn engine':
http://www.v-8.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=198
I had a real nightmare as the 2WD recon box I had was fitted with a diesel input pinion instead of the V8 one and I didn't know as it's hard to tell. The pinion is the same length, but the splines are longer on the diesel type. End result was the splines dug into the rear of my crank and the spigot bearing was pushed way back. Everything was locked up solid.
Ended up taking the box to Ashcroft transmissions who fitted the correct pinion for me, but also needed a new layshaft and second gear to match the new pinion gearing because the bit you can't see inside the box is different.
The recon box cost me about £650 and Ashcrofts cost me close on £300. Ouch.

I may well know of a genuine 2wd R380. If anyone is interested drop me a pm and I will try and find out if it is still for sale.
