Anyone got any tips on the best way to put heat wrap on the manifold? I read somewhere it's best to put on wet/damp is this correct?

Yes don't wrap it
It attracts moisture and will cause the exhaust to rust out very quickly

If you need to keep engine bay temps down ceramic coat them

My exhausts have been wrapped for about 5 years, and no real signs of rust, I did paint the tubes with sperexVHT before wrapping.
As for wetting before use, it depends on what type of wrapping you are using, some you wet some you dont, Thermowrap is quite stiff and needs to be made damp so it becomes pilable, the plain fibreglass wrap is soft enough to use dry.

Have you removed the wrap completely and inspected the pipes? My reason for asking is that I am advised that the wrap will expediate the corrosion process, resulting the pipes rusting away in a very short space of time,...as Ian Anderson mentioned.

Stainless Steel pipes will also be negatively effected.

Manufacturers of tubular manifolds void their warranties should such wrap be used.

Ceramic coating is by far and away the best option. Looks good, no warranty or longevity problems, and reduces underbonnet heat considerably.

I've had wrap on my manifolds for 4 years now. Last month I removed it as it was getting as bit tatty due to the amount of times I take the manifolds off each year. The pipes are not rusty. They show various tempering colours from the flange outwards. But otherwise all ok.
My MGB only does 1/4 miles these days. But it does sit out in the rain with large vents above the exhaust manifolds so rain does get in. When I start it up the water dries off quickly in a cloud of steam. I've just replaced the old wire supported wrap stuff with new fibreglass stuff. I'll see how this does this year.

i bought wrap from TJMOTORSPORT.

once i had applied it, i gave it 3 good coats of vht, still looks good today
