brown dust in dizzy cap

87 rr efi 3.5 efi .in order to track down a miss i had,i changed all the usual suspects,cap ,coil ,plugs etc,rotor.. did a test run .......came back and found shed loads of brown dust in dizzy cap,none on outside????
all lucas parts,none of which are brown?????
ive still got the occasional backfire....

Probably rust off the advance / retard mechanism underneath the baseplate.

Yes, rust dust of your steel advance gear. Give it a wash out with some sort of solvent, blow it out with an airline, when it has dried, then give it a shot of WD40.

thanks all,thats cleared the problem up as far as the red dust.....still not running right,,,
got to do a search on air flow metres and what trouble they show....ive changed everything and this car runs like a pig,not always,i could be out for hours,all fine then bany coughs spits,dies.on lpg and petrol..i could be out for five minutes then it goes......
never when its being reved up for hours outside house,checked wiring,changed connectors........MAY go back to a carbs,hate all this electronic stuff.
