Rocker shaft end supports & spacers

Guys, I'm not sure what extra poundage double valve springs give over standard singles but I'm guessing it is a bit! For this obvious reason and that everything will be working a bit harder in a blown engine I am wondering if I should be putting supports on the ends of the rocker shafts- the original set up seems a bit weak just hanging out the end especially as there is a whopping great hole through the shaft where the pedestal bolts down!

Also would it be prudent for me to make up some alloy (or steel) tubular spacers to replace the spacer springs on the rocker shafts? Is it worth any real power/friction saving or is it minimal? My alloy roller rockers on my A series engine came with them and everything was basically frictionless!

I've seen RV8 rockers with sleeves instead of springs before. You can buy the end rocker supports for about £80 I think, JE Engineering do a rocker kit out of steel billet but its £400

I think I'll be looking at a custom set if I ever get round to fitting my Jesel roller rockers :P

Paul at V8 Tuner said that its the revs that break the rocker shaft ends normally with mechanical cams so even though I will be using double springs they should be fine.

Still wondering about the solid spacers- just depends whether I can be bothered to buy in some ally tube then bore and skim every piece!! Can't see the power saving being measured in horse power either...!

I will bother to make steel spacers + Modifield Je end supports to suit my rockers + Roller rockers + Mechanical cam + rev limit is 6500rpm.. :D

Snap. That's the sort of set up I'm looking at in the furture. I just hope the Jesel rockers I have cab be made to work as they are 1.75 ratio.

Another option would be thick wall rocker shafts, Ive got some I aquired with my RRs, but I have seen them somwhere, Might be on TA preformances website.
