Air Temp Sensor placement

Righto, I've redesigned the layout fo my intercooler pipework, and since I'm getting a plenum made (at some point) would there be any issues having the Ait Temp Sensor sensor/bung welded into the back of the plenum somewhere?

Reason I ask is that I've sorted most of my pipework, and it would make things a hell of a lot easier if i could mount the sensor in/near the plenum rather than in some pipework downstream of the intercooler.

Do you mean MAP or MAF?

Chris.

MAP sensor is built into the ECU (Megasquirt).

I'm talking about the air temperature sensor thing. I have a tube with one in that Gav was using, he was running megasquirt, and the tube isn't suitable for my application, hence why i need to find somewhere else to mount the sensor.

You can stick a MAP sensor wherever you like (as long as it's in the manifold). Ideally it wants to be in the plenum rather than an inlet tract though to even out the pressure variations.

A MAF needs to have all the ingested air passing through it.

Chris,

The MAP sensor is IN the ECU and is connected to the plenum/trumpet base by a length of silicon vaccuum hose - that's sorted no issues.

I dont have a MAF (Mass Air Flow?) sensor or otherwise, and I have an Air Temperature Sensor (my bad i wrote it down wrong) - so can I mount that somewhere on the plenum, or does it have to be upstream of the throttle plate???

On a mates RV8 we fitted into one of the spare holes in the trumpet base - but we found it heat soaked and took longer to respond because there was no air flowing pass the sensor.

So try to locate it in the air stream, after the intercooler and away from heat sources. Also get an open element type as they respond quicker.

That's what i was worried about. Meh. Gonna have to have a rethink then. Again!

Can you use a Flapper plenum and stick it in the cold-start injector hole? That gets plenty of airflow.

Chris.

There must be loads of places you could put it- is it not just a case of drilling a hole and mounting or making a little bracket up?

Chod,
i had the above probs elliot posted about when i too fitted mine into one of the base bungs,

i ended up mounting mine just before the Y piece for the twin plenum,
just after the filter in this pic mate,

Hmm, well my throttle body will be in the middle at the front, angled downwards due to the shape of the plenum. I have a 90degree aluminium pipe out of that, I could get a bung grafted on to that, or the other one on the cole side of the intercooler. Cheers fellas.
