hello all,

So can you fit the inlet manifold without the 2off rubber end seals??

Maybe some rtv and the clamps would do the trick??

Anyone tried this or is it a stupid idea.

You would need a lot of RTV because you'd get a big step where the heads go onto the block. And the radius of the clamp would be slightly out.

Why would you want to do this?

I guess you mean fit the Valley Gasket without the rubber end seals!

It is very possible. I know of a few who have done it sucessfully but as Chris asks why?

I do use extra RTV around the water inlet/exits on the manifold though.

well the main reason, is because the heads i got from V8D bought via ebay, have been machined to much.

And i cannot get the inlet manifold on without removing the inlet rubber seals.

Then i can just to say to the lot together.

Otherwise looks like i am gonna need to have the inlet manifold machined.

Then i still have a problem of matching all the ports on the gasket to the heads.

Just thought removing the seals may answer my problem.

If you are talking about the valley gasket rubber end seals...

My engine has been worked over a bit, and stock end seals dont fit. I just trim the little wedge bits down at each side so they fit into what is left of the notch between the head and the block. The engine I built for a mate a couple of months back had been skimmed and decked. It took almost all of the little wedge bit of the valley seal. In the end I cut it off all together and stuck a shot of "Right Stuuf" sealer in there instead. All good!!!

I assume you have a problem where the valley seals are holding the inlet mani off the heads because of fouling at this point.

If you buy a tube of right stuff from RS you could easily do away with the rubbers as long as you make sure all is totally degreased when you fit the valley gasket. Not cheap at about 16 quid for a dispenser about the size of a pump toothpaste tube.

Perfectly acceptable to do as Perry suggested to get the valley gasket to sit lower and match the position of the modded heads.

The manifold is probably not going to seat correctly, but if the ports on the heads have been taken out to gasket size an acceptable compromise is to elongate the bolt holes in the manifold so that it sits slightly higher and the roofs of the manifold runners match with the roofs of the heads inlet ports.

The correct thing to do is obviously to have the manifold ported to match and the faces machined so it sits in a position matching the head ports.

Check with V8D how much they have taken off the head faces.
