Just curious..
I want to upgrade my ignition system in near future.
So i have got couple of choises? So what you recon boys..

I have got Haltech F10 programmable fuel ecu, and std lucas 35dm distributor.
And i want to upgrade my dizzy now.

1st.

is waisted spark worth of my money vs msd parts? Cheaper option is msd dizzy, 6al-2 + coil because i have got a allredy Haltech F10..

I can sell my old F10, but i need to buy then hole E6X haltech..

Engine is RV8 stage4 5,2L and i think it will rev about 6500rpm max?

As nobody has yet commented on your suggestions I though I would suggest ditching the distributor completely and running Edis 8 waisted spark which can be run from a megajolt ecu.

Cost wise it would compare well with what you were proposing, with fully mappable igniton with no distriburor to worry about.

No point faffing with stone-age mechanical distributors when MegaJolt + EDIS8 is so cheap.

According to my tests, you can run it of the Range Rover GEMS flywheel trigger, so you don't even have to alter the crankshaft pulley. Note the index (missing tooth) is in a different place though and would need changing.

If you go for the MSD option be shure you'll order an extra dizzy cap and rotor for spare. They will last about 6000 miles/10000km and burn out by the high voltage the MSD system is giving.Most of the time somewhere in bumblefck nowhere
Be shure you'll never touch a spark wire..........it will hurt for a while....don't ask...

If you'll deside to go the MSD route then give Sixpack Speedshop in Belgium a call cause he can deliver for about one Dollar to one Euro exchange rate .
Just give him the Summit part numbers.

All I can say, Have four cars running on MSD6's and I won't bother something else.
Take a look at the dragstrip and what do you see........
MSD delivers bolt on horsepower (as I dynotested it).
MSD Pro Billet Dizzys are recurved whitin a few minuts.

Sorry to thread hijack, but I have to ask how much bolt on HP you got from MSD. Reason I ask is that all the literature I have seen (from MSD and from hot rod mags) compares a knackered old distributor with points to a shiny new MSD setup. Never have a seen an HEI setup compared (i.e. transistorised kettering ignition vs CDI).

Any modern coil from a standard car, should work fine.

EG, a pair of 97/98 4 tower coil packs would do fine ( need an external amp with Haltech )


or better still, fire 8 x LS1 coils on them ( you can get away with 4 ign outputs for these if you have them if you pair the outputs )
They have internal ignitors, and have been well proven in cars with a lot more than 1000bhp.
