MAF to MAP on 96 4.6 V8

Hello, i fancy changing my 1996 R/R 4.6 V8 from maf to map, i want to get rid of the air flow meter permantly!
is it possible to do this without changing the whole engine management system?
I have done this to my Supra, fitted a piggy back unit (HKS vpc) that by using map and ait sensors feeding signals to an electronic control unit that then replicates the signal from the afm feeding the ecu...it works very well and throttle respone is hugely improved!

Is there anything like this for a R/R 4.6 V8 does anyone know?

many thanx in advance......

P.S. i wasnt exactly sure where to place this thread so thats why its here!

1 - why?

2 - I've never heard of anybody doing that mod with the existing ECU. In fact, the stock ECU is notoriously difficult to do anything with. The only place that I know of is Mark Adams who can do anything with them.

Cos i have way to much free time, i like a challenge, and i did it to my Supra and the throttle response is soo much better..never been a fan of maf!

Have you any links to a website or other wise where i can go to for further info? many thanx if you have.......

im wondering if a "electronic translater" can be used to convert a map signal to maf so the ecu reconises it...
i know the afm uses an analogue signal from 0 to 5 volt, idles at 1.4 volt, thats all i have dug up so far!!

there is a very good chance that the throttle response was not a function of the MAF but of the way the engine was mapped. Generally the OEM calibration on the ECU is done to minimise the chance of idiots spinning into the scenery on the first wet roundabout so maximise linear operating range. The MAP conversion probably is programmed for a far less linear transfer function, so seems like better response when in fact you have less control over power.

Not saying this is a bad thing, just that it may not be good either.... You could knock up a box to do what you want easily enough, but TBH you could get mark adams to remap it for the throttle response you want for less.

With the Supra i fitted an HKS vpc (piggyback unit) and hard wired it to the stock ecu loom!
Iwas sort of hoping something like this was possible with the R/R ecu?

Never really been a perceived need for it for it. People who are tuning up V8s either remap the ECU or swap it out for an emerald, megasquirt etc.

Throttle response on a 2+ ton truck is never going to be electric anyway!
