Ok, how come it's been down most of the day? And what's with the constant access/loading issues on a monday/beginning of the week etc? This is one of about 6 website forums I use daily and this is literally the only one with issues.
It's not my computer either, I get the same in work, at home or at friends.
Issues with the host?
ok just seen this in the other one Tony can remove

Please remember that this isn't a commercial board and while Tony works very hard at keeping it running as smoothly as possible things can and do go wrong from time to time. He had it fixed as soon as he got home from work which is as good as its going to get unless we all want to pay him a wage!

Cheers Marki,
being on shift work also means when i get home, i can't get straight to a PC now, as need to do the school run as i leave work
the earliest i get on here is around 3.30pm (unless i fall a kip

)
and going on the PC at 5am and checking the forum is still online before i go to work is not on my mind at that time of the day
So sorry once again it was down, it was not our fault,
its a problem with the software so i have found out, and is quite common with php boards.

I'm not around as much as I used to be either, sorry T & M.
If the host has a prob or there's a US-UK prob it's out of our control and usually sorted quickly. If there's a board-specific prob, which is rare, one of us will sort it soon as poss.

Hi Tony,
There is an ongoing performance issue with this site, sometimes it just goes to sleep and can take ages to respond.
And then at other times it works just fine. Think the capri site suffers the same problem, are they hosted by same company.

yes reg they are,
Right regarding the hosting,
if someone wants to pay for uk hosting with the package we got in the states then feel free to take over the forum, and i will gladly walk away and let some one else have the grief,
when we searched around when we had to move from the old host we were getting quotes of £250 upwards, (my pocket)
dont forget normal hosting is no good as not many support the databases we run on, (mysql) and also the bandwidth we use.
and the ones that do want paying through the nose for it, thus why we are hosted where we are now, this year it cost me over £120 for the forum to be hosted for another year (due to the drop in the £ recently, this expires in november 09)
im trying my best to keep the forum online,
at the end of the day it is a free forum,
i dont charge for membership like some forums do,
donations and gold membership are down to the member and not compulsary,
Come on give us a break please

Well I've not been using the forum too long..only just started tackling the V8 as I've been sorting other non-engine related issues on the P6.
But now I have, I for one wouldn't like to see the forum wither on the vine through lack of funding. Too much info and help on here to lose. And I'll put up with the odd sleepy time..no problem.
Tenner PayPal'd.

I don't think anyone was complaining tony even if it sounded like it.
This is an ace forum! How does one become a gold member?

just set up web stats so we can tell how much for certain,
please bare with me as will take a few months to get an idea how much,
when i get home today i will have a closer look to see if i can find where in this package we have how much we have used so far per month,
i think on the old host we were around 7-10gb a month.
but don't hold me to that.

7 to 10 gb? ouch! the bandwidth costs must be pretty horrific!

Not complaining at all. Just letting you know that somtimes you can wait what seems like over a minute for a response.
Will let you know when it happens again so you can follow up with hosting company

Firstly, I wasn't having a go at you or the forum Tony. I was merely pointing out that this is the only website that suffers problems on a far to regular basis and it is just frustrating as I frequent this board daily.
Non of the other forums that I use - all of which are free - have this issue.
So where does the money go that I and many others donated to become 'forum contributors'?? Or even 'Gold Members'?
As a regular user, I find this forum invaluable, and we all know how chilled it is for 99% of the time. I for one would gladly donate another tenner or so each year on top of what I do if it means we get a better service, which is all we're after at the end of the day.
Tony is a true soldier modding this board pretty much on his own (I know a few others do help). If I wasn't such a computer caveman I'd gladly lend a hand (strange that, considering I do 3D hydraulic modelling for a job . . .

)

the gold members money helps pay for the hosting mate as it was aranged to do,
i don't pocket any of the money donated etc by members,
i may use a bit of the money now and then thats donated by companies to have there name on the forum in the form of a banner but thats about it,
hope that's ok?
i always am looking out for a better hosting package,
the one we are on now has a 60GB a month limit which is why we took it as would be ages (fingers crossed) before we have to move again,
but it seems we may have to if you the members are not happy with the way it is at present,
the form runs smoother i still think than when it was hosted here in the uk a couple of years back, but i may be wrong.
sorry if this is a bit babbly, just got home after a 10hr shift and im foooked
