According to J E
We would recommend our '101' camshaft which is a mild fast road cam.
For installations using the older style front engine cover (i.e. having a distributor), cam recommendations include the JE '101' cam for most fast road uses, but again, in lighter cars a more sporty cam can be used. The Crane '218' profile is a good 'track day' cam.
A 4.5 litre engine with 101 cam and 2A induction, will produce about 245 bhp and a maximum of 340 lbf.ft torque, with over 300 lbf.ft from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. With the sport induction the power is reduced to about 220 bhp and the maximum torque is 20 lbf.ft lower. Maximum speed is 6,000 rpm. Higher speeds require valve train improvements and sportier camshaft profiles.
.... but you probably knew this

Cheers KTM,
do they list the cam specs for the 101 at all?

'fraid not - proprietary secret maybe?
Probably any of the cam grinders like Kent Cams will know the specs though. Very incestuous business cam manufacture.

JE101
20//65/25/20
265/225
0.43" lift
Very short exhaust period hig torque cam designed for 4x4 autos really.
JE102 is a much better cam.

From a question I asked about my cam which is a 102 I was told by Boosted that the 102 is
43/79/79/43 302 degrees .500" lift
So now you can compare

This is what I´m looking for.
But the timings, shouldn`t they be 20/65/65/20 ?
I´m currently using the Piper 270/108, do you think the JE101 is an upgrade, gives more torque?
Thanx

My friend has got JE paris dagar 4,5 Efi (build about year 90-94?) with this JE 101 Cam, 10,5Cr, ignition max timing 32deg. I think stage 3 head? And 70mm throttle and maybe 45mm trumpets? Not sure of those head and trumpets.
It produce 296hp @5500rpm and max torque 320lbf.ft = 425Nm of torgue @ 4500rpm.
My 4,6 stage3 efi make kent H214 cam over +440Nm @ 3800rpm.
And torgue gurve my Friend engine is more peaky that mine. I have got over 350Nm @ 1000rpm. He has about 300Nm @ 1000rpm.

I have a 4.5 JED Engine
the 101 is as above 20 65 25 20 with a 265 - 225 Degree Valve lift around 430" and often best with rhodes blled down lifters. this is not too cammy, the 102 has a Hard Power band little below 3000 lots of valve overlap at tickover and torque peaks at 5000
Saw this thread whilst searching so HTH

Can anyone recomend a cam for me.
will be in a 4.0 X-bolted with standard new style heads. (I think they are ment to be quite good)
need a max bhp of 230/240 (If I get too much I can program the ECU to retard a bit so the max bhp drops off a bit)
but would like as much torque as posible as this is not limited.
CR will be about 9.5:1 - 10:1 depends on how much is taken off when the deck the bock. and how much a tin gasket give's me.
Ideally would prefer not to have to pocket the pistons.
I've been recomended to get a Typhoon. but open to surjections.
Thanks
Leigh

Prob being thick here (I could do that for a living sometimes

) but application would help
The latest heads are sort of just about best, there are slighly earlier ones that are slightly better but sort of acedemic reaaly, small head work can pay huge dividends, as can trumpet and base porting and matching ports to manifolds on the exhaust and inlet manifold to head inlets
What other mods are done to it ?
Whats the max RPM Limit ?
Application / road / race
How prepared are you to have a power band
On this last point if you get to wild a cam it can be very tiring to drive fast ie under the revs needed it can behave like a dead dog on a stick until it "Comes on CAm" often a lesser cam although tech giving less BHP etc FEELS quicker becuase the power is everywhere
Post up and maybe I can point you to a few

Guys this is a year old thread that was specifically asking about the JE101 cam not about tuning a 4.0 or any other engine. If you want advice on your particular application could you please start a new thread on this so people in the future can find relevant information via searching.
