distributer caps

hi is there a differance between a p6 and sdi distrubeter caps thanks paul

Hello Paul,
As far as I am aware, the distributor caps as made by Lucas for the P6B and the SD1 are the same.
Rover did move the position of all the leads by one to minimise the chance of cross firing between cylinders 5 and 7, which may have been more susceptable on engines fitted with electronic fuel injection.

Paul,
Just wondered if the question was if you could use an original P6 cap which could be up to 40 years old and well past it's sell by date.
Having looked at the prices now being quoted for supposedly genuine Lucas type caps, I am wondering if there are any issues in using the common Blue type replacement caps which have what appear to be aluminium type contact terminals in the cap, I assume the originals would have been brass.

not after original one m8 just a replacement one i have a p6 front casing on a sdi engine so i can fit the short water pump regards paul
