Hi guys, I am slowly contructing a street strip car with a SBC and 9''. I am planning on using a TH400 with manual valve chest. I know you can have the transbrake with the manual gear set up but what extras do you need to use it? I know how the transbrake works in the 'box itself but can you have a transbrake'd box and just use it as a manual shifting box? Anybody used a JW box? I know John Sleath is the guy for them in the uk

Hi
Not many people on here using the TH400 and even fewer using a transbrake.
Try asking over at

Im not 100% clear on what you mean but i will answer what i think you mean if you understand what i am saying

To shift a auto gearbox using it as you want to change then you have to have a shift kit in it to allow you to change the gear when you want and not when the box decides to. Most of sleathys gearboxes will come with a shift kit in them and he also fits transbrakes to most. Ive been told by many that as long as you have a high stall (i dont mean 2000 rpm either) And your engine is set up correctly then there is no need for a transbrake. Everyone thinks diffrent. I dont use one and some of my mates who have them also say they get away faster when they dont use it.

hmmm interesting V8 jago, I take it you just use a foot brake launch?
I have found as well that usaimports can supply Frank Lupo gearboxes with manual shift.
What sort of stall do you use in yours by the way?

I just use the foot brake and floor the gas when the lights shine. My stall is aroung 2600rpm on the foot brake but if i had a trans brake would be around 3500ish.
