I am looking to get a little more oomph from my stock 3.9 EFi (LPG) which currently sits in a defender. It would appear there are 3 companies that offer a warmer cam to suit a stock engine and i would guess they are close in terms of performance etc.
Is there a preference for one over the others out there?

Have a look at some of the Crower cams.

Whilst a change of cam will add power potential to an otherwise stock engine it is the heads that restrict the flow and the potential of an upgraded cam will not be fully realised until that restriction is removed.
Some basic headwork will yield dividends, the main restriction is immediately behind the valve heads the seats and the throats need opening up to the actual seat size and the valve guides bulleted to remove further restriction, this simple mod will should give 35+ BHP on a 3.9 engine without a cam change and make for a nice free revving engine.
Check out Peter Burgess's web site for more information on his econotune/Stage 1 heads, if you have reasonable skill and the tools it would be quite easy to do yourself.

Who can bullet the guides and how much could one pay to have it done?

Back to the camshaft question, I have a kent 218 in a 4.3 in a ninety which works very well. Some may consider this a little lumpy for a 4x4, but produces more grunt than the JE101 and the standard 3.9 efi camshaft that was fitted before. Considering you have a 3.9, but dont know what other modifications you have done to it, I would go with a kent 180 or 200.
