In trouble for 16 mpg from the Griff...

Apparently, this isn't "good" according to the wife, and I shouldn't be driving the car "like a hooligan".
I thought 16mpg was particularly impressive for using a 5 litre v8 for my 10 mile run to work. Specially considering there's only one short road where I can explore the interesting combination of high revs and high gears. The rest is town driving.
Any suggestions for her re-education?

16 is great, I used to get about 10 in my Camaro driving it to work every day.

Probably about right
I've had the GT40 down at 6MPG doing short runs trying to find the gearbox oil leak!
But on a run can get about 30mpg (Speed dependant of course - but say motorway cruise!)
Traffic and low 20's would be good

If I get 16, I reckon I'm doing well. It's usually about 12mpg in the Landie and 14 in the van.....

My Chebby would do between 12 and 16mpg in town and up to 24 on a run at sensible throttle openings.

Run it on low octane fuel, and tell her its been converted to a diesel cos it will be pinking sooooo much

I do run it on low octane fuel for commuting. Not too bad as long as I don't use lots of timing. Knock sensors are great, aren't they?

I worked mine out at 10mpg once, but my commute is mostly urban
