Hiya all,

next on my list of things to do, is sorting a flywheel.

Been looking for ages but no manual gems flywheels have shown up anywhere.

So i have the gems 36-1 pickup ring from a flex plate and my plan is to modify a sd1 flyhweel to suit the pickup ring.

but would be nice if anyone had some pictures of the correct flywheel i need.

think its from a 4.0 discovery or range rover.

Need to get this part sorted so i can get my block/crank/pistons balanced before assembly.

anyone help out?

A Disco or RR flywheel won't work in a 2WD application - it's much too thick - unless you only want one to copy the sensor ring feature onto an SD1 one.

I think the only places you'll find a 2WD GEMs flywheel will be Morgan or TVR but I'm no expert on those marques and I'm not certain they ever went to GEMs.

Hi Russ,

Not sure thats correct as I fitted one to my car and its as actually lighter that the TVR one I took off. It came with provision for 10.5 inch clutch but I was not able to fit it in the T5 bellhousing so had it redrilled for 9.5 inch

Scott, I used to have a link to a very good photo of a SD1 flywheel modified to accept a GEMS reluctor ring, but the link does not seem to work anymore.

It appeared to be a pretty simple modification. Maybe you can still reach the person and get some info on exactly what is involved.

Don't know about Gems etc but I used a rangie flywheel in my MG. If I recall it was about 32 lb and the SD1 flywheel is about 27. I had the bugger lightened to I think 25/26lb.

I need a flywheel for my new engine too. The steel billet ones on V8 tuner are no lighter than standard, and the ally ones they have are nearly 500 quid plus will only take a 10.5 inch clutch, which im not sure will fit in the lt77 bellhousing, and in anycase they are 200 quid for cover and plate.

I have one of the steel billet flywheels from Rakeway waiting to go on my new engine.
Got the balance checked last week and the balancing guy said it was very good ,virtually balanced when I took it to him.

Rakeway are local to me and the guys there are very helpful.

I also have a fourwheel drive flywheel sitting here (10.5 clutch) if anyone is interested.
