I've rebuilt my 3.5 and put new (Real Steel) high volume gears in the oil pump............i packed the pump with vaseline and after putting the heads and intake back on have primed the pump with a drill...........i'm getting oil in the lifter valley but no visible oil in the rocker shafts...........should i see oil here or does it need the valve covers on to let it pressurize ........i don't think i blocked the oil holes in the heads with my preload shims

Worried

"The rocker shafts must be fitted with the identification groove uppermost and towards the front of the engine on the RH side and towards the rear of the engine on the LH side.

Incorrect fitment will lead to an oil feed restriction"

Quote from Land Rover engine overhaul manual.

right side looking from the rear of engine or right side looking from the front.........alternator side or distributor side(or oil dipstick side).........To me that should be the right side...........which is right side

The LH side of the RV8 is the side with the dip stick. The references with relation to the correct orientation of the rocker shafts are based on this.

The RH side rockershaft will have the identification groove uppermost and towards the front of the engine.

The LH side (dip stick side) will have the rocker shaft with indentification groove uppermost and facing towards the rear of the engine.

Have you put them the other way around? If so you will have an oil feed restriction.

Hi Ron

I checked the shafts........they are correct.........although they don't have grooves like the 3.5 ones i took off...........i put 3.9 heads on and the shafts for the rockers only have a slight notching on the one end so i used that as the grooves ............i'll remove them today and see if i get oil without them on and go from there

Thanks

I removed the shafts and have plenty of oil coming out the front holes.........bolted it all back down and still see nothing at the rockers but with the pushrods bolcking the holes maybe i'm not supposed to see a lot........i loosened the rear shaft bolts again and have lots of oil in the shafts ......am i worrying too much

----------------------------YES,----------------------------- if you have oil up at the shaft, there will be oil working down to the arms, possibly because you are not rotating the engine, the oil may not looks as if it is coming out,
