hi all and merry christmas and a happy new year, what is the best way of getting things from summit, the cheapest way of getting them over here that is, rich,

When I was on holiday to Orlando in September, I had parts from Summit delivered to my Hotel. If you buy enough, you can in fact have a free holiday. Example - Edelbrock Carb - less in dollars than £ price here.
Folk on the NSRA site get stuff regularly from them, so check out www.nsra.org.uk.

I all depends on how quick you'll need your parts.
Overseas : cheapest but can easely take up to 8- 10 weeks

For Summit deliveries to the Netherlands USPS(airfreight) and UPS almost have the same prices and with this UPS is the quickest with 7-8 days. But thats mostly have to do with the post company overhere having clearance problems.

I personaly prefer UPS cause I have my parts in time when I need them, they deliver them where I wan't to ( most of the time at my daytime work ) and still have my parts much cheaper than purchasing them overhere.

UPS deliveries to busines adresses are always cheaper than to house adresses ( UPS delivers daytime when everybody is ......working). You can mark this when making you order @ Summit ( one of the last pages when finalising your order / billing adress - shipmend adress.... and mark this when this shipmend adress is a bussiness adress).

In the Netherlands I have to pay my tax duties directly to the UPS guy who delivers it so there's no billing afterwards.

Ive used them a few times and found them to be very good. They offer about 8 different shipping options though and i cant remember exactly which i used. If one of the options was usps then that would've been the one, they are always cheaper than the shipping Co.s in my experience and never had probs with them. Ive used them for heads, inlets, carbs, allsorts in fact. They often bung me a free baseball cap or t-shirt without asking too

I've used them once and got stung for vat and all that jazz

They also add on a $25 ish charge if the part is going abroad too so all those cheap rpices soon start to become just a little bit less than the equivelant over here.

thanks for the help guys, over here the parts i want will be about £700, from summit they are about $650, which works out at the moment about £350, the items are a edelbrock 750 cfm carb, edelbrock rpm inlet manifold, holburn style scoop, ally rocker covers. If im only going to save about a hundred quid after tax and postage, i will get from real steel as i get 10% of the price anyway, so your advice needed again all,how much will i save from summit, all the best rich .

hi all, ok the exchange rate today is $1.98 to the £, so ive had alook for parts from summit, edelbrock 750 carb, edelbrock rpm performance inlet ,and edelbrock rpm performance heads .total $1.555 = £785, same parts from real steel are £1.470, can anyone work out roughly how much it will cost in duty and vat and shipping please,how much of a saving is it. all the best rich.

Probably cost you £1k in total - so still a saving with a bit of luck.
Warranty returns could get tricky though...

thanks Eliot for the reply, ive read the duty is 3.5% then add 17.5% plus the shipping cost would take it upto close on £1200, or am i wrong in the working out , anyone going to u,s,a for a holiday ,thanks again Rich.

you will also pay customs handling charge from the carrier, amount depends on the carrier. Have you contacted real steel as their prices used to vary on exchange rate?

I was in New Orleans last week, in Pep Boys having a look around. Edelbrock alloy heads for small block Chebby, complete with valve gear etc: $639

SBC block hugger headers $69

SBC Edelbrock intake $106

Edelbrock (Weber) 500 carb: $249

And loads of other droolworthy stuff. I bought just a handful of little odds and ends, nothing I really needed, but if I had a SBC sitting at home I'd have brought a whole load of stuff back. It could be well worth taking a flight over and selecting a whole bunch of stuff to use, or sell and cover your trip. The USA is designed for, and by, petrolheads.

Dollar price + Dollar shipping rate
then add duty i thought it was 5% although it does vary
Probably handling fees £10-20 maybe
then add vat

ok ,time for me to sound stupid again, the edelbrock heads are about $590 is that each or a pair, i thought that would be each, thanks for any replies rich.
