This guy seems to running a strange business of reconditioning Lifters and rockers.

Did not think it was a good thing to do either.

Rockers should be fine to be reused, but lifters are a definite no no as I found out recently.

From what I can tell, his 'reconditioning' involves cleaning them . . .

Presumably he's reground the bottom so it's perfectly flat again......

you would not believe how much these things wear until you get them out,
i guess resurfacing them is a good idea, and it may even help when setting the clearances if you have skimmed your heads aswell

Guaranteed to knacker your cam in 20 mins.

Used lifters are good for two things......paper weights or the bin.

Wish I could sell used 3.5 blocks for £300.......I've scrapped 5 this year because no-one wanted them.

will it just cause them to wear extremely quickly?

The cam and lifters are the two most critical items in any engine rebuild.

If you have a used cam and the lifters that it used and have kept a note of which valve each lifter was operating then you can reuse them. Even then it's probably a false economy.

Even with a new cam and new lifters the first 20mins of running are crucial as it is possible for one of the lifters to wear or for a cam lobe to go completely flat.

Rule of thumb is always use a new cam, new lifters and plenty of cam lube. Then when the engine starts keep the rpm above 1800 (preferably 2000) for 20-25 mins.

True you can re-use rockers but if they are worn you cant refurbish them.

even if you replace the warn shafts the rockers will be contaminated and wear the new shafts very quickly.

I sent the guy an email asking how he's refurbished the lifters.

im guessing it may be frowned upon but i tend to pack the pump with vaseline to get my oil pressure after a rebuild,
also (shameless plug as i have one forsale) mark adams chips let the engine turn over a few times before it will start helping prime up the oil pressure.
