Moving the alternator. 3.5efi Range Rover Engine

I have this engine in my Defender. The alternator is at the top right hand side when facing the front. I am thinking of moving it to the left. I have a bracket that the aircon compressor would sit on that may be modified to work.
Are there any V8s with this set up so I could use a standard bracket? I am sure I have seen it, but can't remember where. I would also need to add a double pulley on the water pump to drive it.
I will be visiting a scrappy on Monday for a dig around as I need a new belt tensioner.
Thanks,
Paul.

my older 3.5 v8 has the alternator on the drivers side of the engine , there is one belt that go's on the waterpump , crankshaft & water pump and a second belt that drives from the crank to the power steering pump
std like this , but with no aircon

I'm prettu sure old (pre EFi) Range Rovers and all SD1's had the alternator on the drivers side. Whether it would line up with your water pump pulley / crank pulley is a different questions.

On the GT40
I have the alternator low on the left hand (UK Passenger Side)
It only runs a single belt around crank, water pump and Alt
No Aircon or power steering
I could take photos and e mail if necessary

Thanks for all your replies. I was thinking of moving it because the current mounting was twisting when the belt was tensioned. This meant the alternator was crooked and this was damaging the bearings. I took a trip to a local breakers for a bit of inspiration. On a V8 Discovery I fount a steady bar that bolts underneath the alternator bracket. This stiffens it up and stops it twisting. It was missing on mine. Job done and the alternator stays where it is. There was just enough space to fit the larger alternator I had as well.

There is an allen bolt with a countersunk head that holds the alternator bracket back to the head. You can't see it because it's hidden behind the PAS pump.
If this is missing, it will allow the bracket to move away from the head and gives the symptoms you describe.

Chris, all is present and correct. It was just the lower stay that was missing.
Thanks,
Paul.
