problem....

i have a early range rover v8 with a sd1 front cover, and short p6 water pump... now is there something i am missing to get the water pump and the crank pully to line up?

also the oil shaft and gear i took fromthe range rover front cover is to big for the sd1 cover, replace with sd1 stuff?

Crank pulley should be a P6 one, although it is possible to modify the original SD1 one, if the gears are too long in the front cover it's a P6 one, does it have a rope seal in it?

If the oil pump gears that you have are too tall to fit within the front cover, then you do not have an SD1 front cover, although there is an exception.

From 1977 onwards, all front covers for all Rover V8 engines featuring camshaft/distributor driven oil pumps all use the same gears with the same dimensions.

The front cover that you have is therefore either from a P6B or an earlier p5B. However, the exception being as mentioned above, it is my understanding that the very early SD1 engines of 1976 used the P6B front cover and oil pump gears.

The drive on the end of the distributor is also specific to either the short or tall oil pump gears.
