What kit car are you building? what space do you have? Rover engine?
Ideal set up is two box small front box about 10 to 12 inches long 4 1/2 to 6 inch diamiter after the header (run the engine on open headers with a length of straight stainless steel pipe on and look for where the pipe gets hottest that is where you want the first box to start). second box wants to be at least 18" further down about 12 to 18 inches long and ovel 4.5 by 8 inches. this is assuming a 3.9/ 4.0 rover on 2.5 bore pipe, all boxes straight through. I have seen these at stoneliegh a few weeks ago, Aeroexhaust.com (they have a UK distributer who I cant't find at the moment but I'll post it up when I find it) not used them myself yet but their boxes are what I am planning to put on mine when I get to that point.

My apologies.
Its for a GCS Morgan replica, so exhausts would have to be fitted each side with the silencer box tucked under the running boards.
Ive got block hugger manifolds and the single outlet at the base is quite small.

I use the Chevy Turbo mufflers from RS. They are flat oval and about 10" wide by 4" deep and about 14" long.

They are only about 30 quid each and they are all I use on mine. My MOT man is happy with them too.

I can find lots of references for RS on Google but no UK dealer.
Got an address or website please?

Sorry mate

RS is Real Steel in Uxbridge. Not RS components.

The mufflers are on page 115 of the book. Not sure about the new website. Enjoy

I think the website must still be under construction.
The budget mufflers I use are still about 20 quid each inc vat for 2.5 inch connections.

SVA

Well there is something that I went through and it does not remind me of happy times!

We went LOUD at first test (105db at 2000rpm) but free flowing so the emissions were real easy

They then failed the car on the noise

We adjusted the exhaust and inserted extra baffles etc and it passed - they can only recheck the failed items at the retest.

So give them something to get their teeth into and fail you and then fix it afterwards for the retest.

What makes it an ideal set up? I will be doing something very similar but won't have to SVA it so noise isnt sooo much of an issue - however I'd rather let the power do the talking than the exhaust note... until I put my foot down anyway!!!
I want twin pipes down the sills (1 each side) and exit before back wheel so will need very small or long thin silencers- what is going to be most efficient?
Thanks!

Hi
for a V8 you want either a 4:2:1 or a 4:1 long tube set up with a ballance pipe or a full "cross over" set up that goes 8:2:1:2 where the middle two pipes on each side are merged with the outer two on the other (really only possable with a mid engined car) the actual system should be straight through and have a constant diamiter after the first box. Two boxes on each side with the first about 1/4 to 1/3 the volume of the second, ballance pipe at the first "blue striping" (band on the pipe where it resonates and gets hot) after the pipes merge at the collector, first box starts the same distance on from the ballance pipe as the ballance pipe is beyond the collector ballance pipe should be about 3/4 the diamiter of the main exhaust and and idealy a whole number of times the volume of one cylinder. The last box is "stuck on the end as far down as you can go"
Apart from that the principle is minimal bends, straight through pipes and constant pipe diamiters (unless you know what you are aiming to achieve).
