im just setting the cam timing on my engine and its been a LONG time since I have done a degree wheel set up so Im just going to run it past to see if I am doing it right,
I know my cam wants to be set at 105.5
So The procedure so far has been,
Clock No1 piston at TDC, Set pointer on crank degree wheel to Zero,
rotate the crank 105.5 degs clockwise, so that is 105.5 ADTC
with Vernier bolts out, rotate cam to max lift on inlet, refit bolts to vernier and lock, check settings twice more,

Ive only had 3 hours sleep in the last 30 hours  and I am feeling a bit vague, does the procedure sound right :D

Hi Ian
yes it sounds right but maybe not too acurate as you are timming it at a point where the lift is changing very little.
I did the chevy on the .05" points, it gave me four points to check off the timing card and as a result although it takes longer it is more certain.
assuming each lobe is symetrical you can check it by making sure the lift is the same at 45.5 degrees and and 165.5 lift (+ and - 60 degrees) where the lift will be changing rapidly if you don't have the the .05 points.
Isky and comp cams have tutorials on their websites.
Good luck and hope you get some sleep soon
If you are stuck I'm off work tommorow, send me a PM and I can come and give you a hand.

Using the lift/timing method at 50thou seems to be the preferred method, although is a little tricker.

But apparently it ensures the actual valve events are as the grinder intended them.

Doing the full lift at tdc, can still be prone to errors.

When I did my last LS cam...TDC method would have been 4deg difference from the lift/timing method.
