Might need a change of plan!

Hi all,

Im thinking of taking off the standard injection and going to a carb as a temporary measure.

The car is not running to well, on injection and I think I will need the off season to get a new aftermarket ecu and loom etc and spend time mapping it properly. However, the season is upon us and I am still not ready to go out and play yet.

Question is, what would be a good 4 barrel carb to use on a 3.9, circuit only car? Also, it has a bosch 044 injection pump presumably i would have to change that for a lower pressure pump also, rather than try to regulate it?

Any advice as always appreciated

If you contacted Phil Ringwood at efi extra I am sure he could get you set up with a megasquirt extra on a rover v8 using your heardware alot quicker than you'll get a 4 barrel on and set up and for alot less money than a manifold, carb and jet kit plus a couple of rolling road sessions to get it even in the ball park (you could be fitted and running by Monday night with a base map in it).
Or if you went for VEMS there is again alot of base maps ready to go and alot of knowlage on here and as both set ups run with a wide band lambda sensors so you can tune them yourself by driving them so you don't need the rolling road sessions so you don't have to wait until they can fit you in.
And no i don't have any connection with Phill's business.

Hi Steve,

I was going to call you to find out how much fun you had at Daytona but have lost your number.

If you thinking of going carb then probably the easiest route would be an Edelbrock/Weber 500 on a Performer manifold which is supposed to be 10BHP better than the Offenhauser manifold, There are better manifolds for full race, Huffaker if you can find one or the Wildcat or ozzy Wilpower which has been suggested is the same, I think their all basically Huffaker Clones and unheated which is fine for racing.

If you PM me with your number, I'd like to have a chat about what problems you had with the EFI set up.

I'd agree there. The edelbrock is a piece of piss to set up. You can take a set of jets with you and bomb around and make changes as you go, no hassle. 5 minute job to change jets and not even that if it's just a needle change.

Cheers Guys,

Will have a potter over the weekend and see if it will run better but will most likely map it over the winter and run a carb for now. Although I understand what you are saying Mike.

Would need to tig a lambda probe into the exhaust which is stainless, and I think it could go on and on from there :?

Anyone got any ideas about the fuel pump question if I decide to change to carb?

Steve,

If you have the EFI fuel system in place with a return, you can take a feed to the carb off that with a pressure regulator set at 5.5lbs and that will be fine.

Somebody posted a few days ago on this subject and there might have been a diagram.
