Right, just bought a plenum spacer for my manifold in the hope taht it would take the throttle elbow off the nearside turbo. Unfortunately it doesn't so I'm having to have a rethink.

I bought the spacer from DJE, it arrived very quickly, but had a small piece of laminate missing from one corner, although nothing that would affect performance. As it isn't suitable, I phoned up to tell them that I would be returning it, to which I was told I'd be charged a 'restocking' fee of 10%!!!!!!!!! Also, the £10 P&P is completely written off. So I've now been charged £10 plus £5.7 recharge, plus whatever it costs me to send it back.

I have never heard anything so f***** outrageous in my life! Restocking charge my arse!

And yet agian the bloke I spoke to was unhelpful and rude. This was the last chance I was gonna give DJE. Not again.

Have to say I am with DJE on this one. Why would you expect to be able to buy something, decide you don't need it and think you can just send it back without any cost to you? Re-stocking charges are common place and you always loose your postage.

sorry but i've never heard that before, and no one else out of the countless businesses I've dealt with, bar none, have ever done it to me. I wouldn't mind, but the spacer was actually damaged as well. Its just not good business practice IMO, right or wrong. Certainly doesn't do much for customer satisfaction.

Well I am sure you will again in the future. The issue here isnt that its damaged as I am sure they would send you a replacement without any problem. The issue here is you bought the wrong thing so why should they take it back completely at their cost and in fact cost them money in refunding your postage for the privilege? Its not an item that you really need to see just so you know you want it, its a spacer of known dimensions.

So, you think they should be out of pocket for the postage, and time, because you ordered the wrong item? Damage aside, I see nothing wrong with their actions. If you called up and demanded they pay the postage even though it was you who had changed your mind I can see why the guy on the other end of the phone might have seemed unhelpful.

Now, if you were returning it just because of the damage then I would be on your side entirely.

To be honest I'm not surprised either, but not because of the reasons given above but because you only have to look at his ebay adds to see he's a money grabber I've items stuff back to other suppliers (alternator bracket from V8 Tuner for example) when they didn't fit with no problem at all.

He's not too helpful when it comes to questions about parts he's selling either - I asked him if a part would fit my engine giving him exact information on my spec and he just said 'probably'. Well I'm not spending £90 on something that would probably fit ! I thought he knew his stuff !

He's waaaaay too expensive anyway.

Let me clarify this for you makri/paul et al since you're so adament in supporting DJE.

I did not order the wrong item, but I needed to have the item in my hands/fitted to see if it would work with my setup. I actually told DJE this, and also asked if they did a larger (thicker) one if need be. He said no and what did i need it for, and gave me the impression he wouldn't have any problems with me returning it if it didn't work out.

What annoyed me the most what his attitude when I asked him about the restocking charge. I just asked him what it was / what it was for (as I'd never heard anything like that before) - and I had to ask FIVE times before he told me it was a 10% surcharge.

As for the postage thing, apologies I wasn't clear enough. I wouldn't expect anyone to refund the postage if I was returning the item. What pissed me off is the £10 postage DJE charged for an item that would have cost about £3-4 max., and they don't actually state the postage either.

Anyway, I've had enough fo this wish I hadn't posted it. This plenum issue and the wiring (which i can't bloody do!) has me on the brink of junking the whole feckin project.

Im afraid to have to say that I have not had good service from this chap.
High price for poor standard of work.
Im sure he must have some satisfied customers.

Ironically that spacer that i showed you in the photo was from him also. My mate was talked into to it (amongst other goodies) on a visit. He said it would fit his westfield seight, but it didn't (plenum too high, bonnet wouldn't close).

Probably pains you - but you could always purchase another one and use two spacers to get the desired height.

Yeah I could buy two, but then the plenum, throttles and most of the carbon elbow would be quite proud of the bonnet!

They are £67 each posted. Spoke to Nigel at Atliss today and I'm going to send him a few drawings and he's gonna give me a quote for some custom alloy bits instead. He reckons it shouldn't be too hard to fabricate something to bolt to the throttles instead of the carbon elbow, I'm also having a y-pipe made hopefully for the turbos>intercooler.

As i've said before on here I got on ok with Dave when I went down to see him but I am a little concerned with some of his ebay auctions. Some items that have clearly been used are described as otherwise. Also advertising cranks for sale as 'finely balanced' is a bit of a con. Balanced with what? surely no use at all unless used with the assembley it was balanced with. I'm afraid some of the bits DJE sell on ebay just look like the hot-tanked remains of tired racing engines he's rebuilt with new parts for customers. Sticks out like a sore thumb to many but perhaps not to all and i'm sure some have wished they hadn't bothered. With regard to handling fees though i'm afraid that is perfectly legitimate business practice

Did you buy it over the phone or internet as opposed to going in to the shop?

If you did then you can legitimately return it within 7 days of receipt under the Distance Selling Regulations. Nothing he can do about that

Those regs used to be the bain of my life when I ran V8 Tuning and RCC Ltd. People would buy stuff and then decide they needed the money for a pint at the weekend and return stuff to us for a full refund.

Cant say im too surprised. The guy at DJE is an arrogant twat. I was talking to him on the phone regarding a transaction that would have been worth a bit of money, and he just hung up the phone. I wasnt rude, and didnt say anything to cause him offence - he just hung up. I phoned again just to make sure it wasnt a bad recption, and he picked the phone up and immediately dropped it again!
He didnt get my business, and wont in the future either....

i have to say seen alot of this rover v8 guys and John Eales is the best guy around and very nice guy + located in a nice bit of the uk

I bought an item on ebay and had difficulty getting down to collect it, but he just wasn't interested in helping by wrapping it for postage.

He's black listed in my book.
