So.....Megasquirt, EDIS, Wasted Spark and Turbos

Opening myself up to a whole can of worms here, but for instance, if I wanted to run a MSD Programmable Digital7, a hair dryer (or 2) and a 'DIY' injection system what would be a good route to follow?
Fuel Pump isnt a problem as I have a Magnafuel Prostar sitting in the garage (good to 1500 - 2000bhp!).
As I have the Digi 7 already, I would like to use this for ignition - but im throwing ideas around at the minute....being more of a belt and braces carb guy the world of injection still scares me
Would be for a SBC/BBC - ideally something that could flow enough / work well for a 350/383 SBC but also 454/502 BBC

Hi Iain
Megasquirt or MS extra would do all you want, use the GM trigger module in a locked off distributor (on the MS website) to trigger the MSD and use the MS to fully map the ignition. The injection side is pretty straight forward on the MS as all the sensors it was developed with are GM all the other makes are "adapted" to look like GM stuff. If you keep the boost below a couple of bar then the MAP sensor is fine (I think you can fit an upgrade to take you further.
It is all on the MS website, also Eliot's site makes a very a good introduction.
If you go MS I can solder one up for you and test it if you want (I have done my own, and 20 years ago I worked on a computer cct board soldering production line, unfortunatly you don't forget

)
VEMS is a good solution also.

Will have a dig around the MS site...from what your saying the MSD 7 will only give the spark while the MS will 'map' the ignition.
If so - is it worth just getting a basic MSD unit and not an all singing/dancing one that I have here

Don't get MSD at all and go straight to lost spark or EDIS via the ECU. No other ignition controller is needed

MS extra may be better for you If you are going wasted spark, though I suspect V3 MS can fire coil packs directly by now. If you sell the MSD you will probably cover most of your MS costs!

Just spent the last few hours flicking through various sites, and this does seem like a good way forward (running both fuel and ignition).
Still confused to hell as to all the options that are available, board revisions etc etc (also a shame that I have a blow through carb landing here soon as well.....dammit!)
Without importing a kit, are their any UK based
kit suppliers that can also supply a 3 / 4 bar MAP sensor? Just want to get an idea on associated costs before making a decision (and having to sell all my bits again!!)

http://www.extraefi.co.uk/ and they do ready built set ups, I am unsure if they do kits but Phill Ringwood will be along soon who runs it and contributes extensivly to this forum.
There are very helpfull suppliers of kits in the states, I have dealt with
http://www.diyautotune.com/ and he is very good and he does the full range of kits.
I think for specials like high boost aplications Phill is your best bet.
I would start with lower boost first of all, and upgrade the ECU later on (I think the high boost MAP sensor is about $30 from memory but it may be much less (the standard one is about $1).

If you are starting off, without injectors and working below 2 bar or so I recon you are in for about £250 to £400 including wideband O2 sensor depending how much you are willing to do yourself. injectors are about £200 a set off ebay and a manifold and throttle bodies on top.

Just wondered if it was worth building/upgrading the ECU to 3 Bar first (4 bar being VERY optimistic!!) instead of building it, then having to redo it again later.
I will be starting from a totally clean sheet...all I have is the fuel pump!!
Thank god im off sick at the minute, at least I have something to do now whilst these tablets kick in!!
Edit - at a minimum im looking for fuel/ignition control, rev limiter, burnout & staging limiter (these could be different RPM's) boost retard (possibly boost control) and maybe launch control (tied into boost control)
Also - I would like this to look as much like a carb setup as possible, injectors will be in the runners, but would like some sort of 'carb' throttle body (though the Mez site has given me ideas!!) can anyone suggest anything that wont break the bank. If this works the same as a blow through carb I only need 750CFM N/A flow
So many questions - apologies!

I have some 4bbl bodies in stock that you can either use as TBI or bung up the inject ports.
2.5 bar sensors (the standard onces) are good for 21PSI boost. £10, not £1 sadly.
If you want a kit I do have them in stock

Can anyone give me an idiots guide to the benifits of EDIS V's Wasted Spark?
From the reading Ive been doing EDIS appears simple and even has a limp home mode built in...but...dependant on the unit - could have a low rev limiter built into the EDIS unit that over rules any setting in Megasquirt (im still not sure how far this engine would be pushed on the track, but would be mightly annoyed if I hit an EDIS limiter when I dont want too)
Wasted spark....fires the same coil, one spark going to the cylinder you want to light, the other to the exhaust cycle of the other cylinder (I think)
Is that all there is to it - apart from the fact that MS would drive the coill direct?
