Hi there,
I am in the middle of TR7-V8 conversion project. I have bought a cross bolted RV8 4.0L engine though eBay. The piston second from rear on RH side appears "washed clean" so I assume either head gasket or liner failure on this pot. I would appreciate advice on how to proceed, and in particular, advice on machine shops in Sydney Australia that might be able to assist.
Regards
Owen

PS - what's wrong with my image tag - why doesn't it render in the forum? "Fixed"

So any suggestions on how to determine if the washed piston is caused by liner or head gasket failure?

If it was gasket related you will have a witness mark on either the block or head face plus the gasket. I cant see anything on the block so what does the head look like? I hate to say it but that looks like the classic liner problem to me

No gaskets came with engine. Heads had already been dipped (and pressure tested ok), so no marks visible.
I assume to confirm that it is liner failure the block needs to be pressure tested at temperature? Do any Aussies forum members know of someone that can do this?

Thanks Royston, can you advise details of the liners that you had used so that I can investigate local supply?

Hi Owen,
I had my block fitted with thick walled top has liners, unfortunately I don't have dimensions(although I'm running at 20thou oversize I wanted to ensure I could go to a larger piston size if I wanted to remove the engine again) probably not, more important to ensure I didn't experience anothe failure in the future

Try Waggott Engineering or Graham Russell Engineering. John Davis Motorsport do a lot of Range Rover stuff and may also have a contact.
