Hi all, If anyone is interested in electronics I have made a small thermostat which couples directly to the temp sender on the inlet manifold

please have a look at www.dakoder.co.uk/edu/1

Hi Graham,
Looks like a great project, I like the way you have fitted it into an existing relay case.
Clearly you know a thing or two about writing assembler as well!

Two observations on your schematic - I can't see any decoupling capacitors anywhere. I would have added about 10uF on each side of the 7805 and a 0.1uF between GND & VCC.
And normally the crystal needs about 10-15pF to gnd on each pin. Maybe that PIC has it internally.

Hi Chris, Well spotted !
yes I left out all the de-coupling and free-wheeling diode as it cluttered up the diagram and my aim was to produce something small and simple with few components.
It works fine on my engine.....

The pic is used on its own with no periferals so no need there and as for the 7805 the input voltage has very little a/c on it and the 5v rail does have a small 47uF enough to remove any amplified a/c from input, the 7805 is a very good regulator and quite forgiving.

as for the crystal I thought about using the internal osc but prefer the stable chars of the crystal
Well spotted anyway!

I hope to produce a GLCD 128x64 which shows all the sensors on the v8 and have it mounted in the engine compartment just for fun..

cheers

Just noticed your lovely old series !!!! I had a IIA a few years older 1967 with the luxury bonnet and passenger door that flew open on most right hand bends

Sounds like you've got it all under control!
