My car, Deimos

Chaps,

Just thought I'd show my car as there may be one or two interested.

It's called Deimos (named after the Martian moon of the same name - meanind Panic!!) and was built from scratch using the plans and drawings in Ron Champions Build Your Own Sports Car etc.

It was started on 6th July 2002 and was registered on 3rd Jan 2006. Unlike the book, car has IRS suspension and a Rover V8. Sierra 3.92 diff fitted is an utter waste of time. When I get round to finishing the current mods (started 16/10/06) and have used it again for a while, I have a 2.28 BMW diff that I'll chuch in.

Anyway, these pics are now somewhat out of date - the side panels are being replaced with ally, the engine compartment ones are moved out 3" at rear to allow ventilation to engine compartment as there's a couple of turbos and fuel inj to replace the SU's - the plenum will stick through bonnet. Scoop was binned.

Cool setup...Did you build the turbo bits yourself ?

How fast is it ?

Nice, what turbos did you use?

Will you need a 1 way valve on those breather pipes to stop your boost pressure being lost into the rocker covers?

wow that's a bit of a monster. Good work with the intercoolers.

Chaps,

Turbos are from an Audi S4 - KKK03's. I heard from another S4 owner who'd upgraded to "04s" that they're good for about 330bhp. If I get 300, I'll be delighted, but happy with around 275.

Intercoolers are homemade from Ren 5 GT T, with all plastic removed and ally welded on. Exhausts are also homemade from Sch 40 butt weld pipe/bends.

The plenum/base and manifold have lost about 2" in height so they won't stick too far through my bonnet.

Yeah, one of breathers is plumbed in, t'other to do.

Top speed with the Sierra diff is about 117:(, but with the 2.28:1 BMW unit, it'll go up to a theoretical 196:), which will mean that 30mph at 835rpm, 70rpm at 1950rpm and I guess about 55mpg at 50 mph at 1500rpm. First gear will also become useful.

I'm doing a blog (started just after Christmas) which has the latest pics on - http://deimosevolution.blogspot.com

That looks cool. Well done mate.
Once you get that new diff in, you will need to get some more aerodynamic goggles though Simon:)

Peeps,

As usual, these things take longer (so far 98 weeks longer!!!), but some progress has been made.

I did a vid on my phone which is rubbish, but have a look here, to see it running:)

Have a look at the orig vid to see it with bonnet off!

Going to Emerald soon to have it set up, so need to get a few more jobs done!
