oil pressure

simple one for ya
is it possible to get enough oil pressure from just crancking it over on the starter motor, with no plugs and fuel pump fuse in??????
and if you can get enough oil pressure will it be enough to turn the oil pressure warning light off????
just how fast does the starter motor turn the engine over in RPM????

Oil pressure should be available on the starter,
if not, you've got problems...
I frequently run the pressure up before starting
an engine after a long rest, using the starter and
a second battery connected with jumper cables.
30 seconds cranking, 3 minutes rest for the starter,
coil disconnected...

YES to both it can take quite a while to pressurise enough to put the oil light out, it did with my engine newly built, 2 stints of 30-40 seconds
just how fast does the starter motor turn the engine over in RPM????
Can't rememer how fast but alot quicker that with plugs fitted, obviously!

When I was putting the rover lump into my mg, I bought a rather long flat head screwdriver, cut the handle off and then put the screwdriver into a drill.
I removed the dizzy and engaged the end of the screwdriver with the oil pump drive gear and spun the pump over untill my assistant announced there was oil pressure.
When you spin it over this way, you can actually feel when the pump is making pressure as the note of the drill changes.
Dizzy back in and then you're ready to fire up.

my engine is a serpentine with crank driven oil pump, not a distributor driven oil pump, used above method on my earlier V8's!
