Hi folks, can anyone recommend a prop specialist in the west midlands?? i have a sd1 v8 + lt77 in a mk1 escort that needs mating up to a capri atlas axle i'm using. I'm on a very tight budget but the cars not gonna move without one!! i have the sd1 prop + a capri prop so have both the uv joints. any recommendations would be gratefully received!

i used the front of a landrover prop and the capri rear,
which worked well (top prop in pic)
then sent it to Propshaft services and they made this bute of a prop,
which is the bottom one in the pic,

Do you have a welder? Put one propshaft next to the other, end to end, apply weld, for ages, job done

Seriously, my Sherpa prop and SD1 prop were exactly the same size tube, so I made a 6" long steel sleeve, that slipped inside tightly, tapped them together, welded round them join, bit at a time to save distortion, keyhole welded in a few places, and the jobs a good 'un.

Thanx for the advice lads,the difference in the diameter of the sd1 tube to capri tube is alot so can't sleeve it! also it has to be a one piece as the centre bearing bracket in the floor of the escort isn't in the same place as the capri ( as its a mk1 capri 3.0 atlas on a mk1 escort) but an interesting point from v8 kid?? would the lt77gearbox flange mate up to a land rover disco prop as i know where there is one in a local scrapyard..? and it might be longer/ similar diameter?

You could try Reco Prop (Luton) or Bailey Morris (St. Neots). They'll do what you need, expect to pay a bit over £100.

The lt77 flange should mate up to most land rover propshafts, I think discovery's have small diameter solid front props, and the rear has a rubber donut thingy with a 3 bolt flange? Could be wrong though but thats what I saw under my mum's disco.

They did the prop for my MGBV8 conversion.

The worrying thing for me in that thread is that the "bolt on anti polevault plate" that owner had installed has failed to do the job that it was made for. Clearly there is no substitue for proper driveshaft hoops, front and rear of the shaft. If you are scratch building a tube chassis car then this is a matter of course but I guess it is more often over-looked on engine swap street cars. This unfortunate because these are the cars where all the driveshaft angulation may not be correct, something to think about if you bought your modified car from someone else and did not set it up yourself..

I kind of wonder if his diff seized or something as that seems a catastrophic failure.
