My new motor has the above dizzy fitted, but the ignition module is missing. I can get one from the USA, £50 ++ but I've also heard I can use a standard HEI module/amp, which I believe is the same animal as fitted in the RV8 ignition system, the amplifier as we call it.

Anybody have any idea as to whether it'll work or not?

I don't want to fit it and fry something.

From what I can see the correct module also needs a certain type of ignition switch to switch the connections at the right time, as one (the white wire) is needed to retard the timing at startup. I don't want to spend £50 on the proper module then burn it up because I wired it wrong.
here's the diagram I found for the proper module:

I reckon the RV8 amp could just be wired to the orange and purple, and the other two terminals to the coil, as per RV8?:?

Here's the proper module, Motorcraft # DY893 (newest number)

Woohoo, look what I just found:

Image

A veritable smorgasboard of ignition modules, all looking awfully similar to the ones we use in our RV8 upgrades.

And some names and part numbers too:

Northern Auto Parts (http://www.northernautoparts.com/)

* ACCEL Ignition Module # 35361
* ACCEL Ultra High Performance # 35367
* Proform's High Performance Control Module # 66944C

JEGS High Performance (http://www.jegs.com)

* Pertronix Flame-Thrower # 751-D2000
* ACCEL # 110-35361
* ACCEL # 110-35367 (Ultra Performance)
* JEGS' # 555-40600

Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com)

* Pertronix Flame-Thrower # PNX-D2000
* Pertronix Flame-Thrower # PNX-D2070
* ACCEL # ACC-35361
* Mallory # MAA-607
* Proform # PRO-66944C
* Summit's # SUM-850100

Looks like I can have the same fun as with my RV8, and there's a million amps out there to choose from available for pennies.

And here's some interesting 'fun' to do with ignitions, some pretty 'tractory' though:

I have a selection of HEI modules lying around if you want to try.

Bill, I'm in the Gulf of Mexico at the moment, on a ship, but I'll be getting off in Galveston in three weeks. I'll probably visit the Autozone and Pep boys parts shops on the way through and see what sort of goodies they have. Thanks for the offer though.

I need to make a list of all them little bits and pieces they sell in packets, that you never see in Halfords in the UK 8-)

Might buy an Edelbrock 600 too.....

I'm not sure that bloke knows what he's on about. A coil with a built in resistor?, first I've heard!

Chris.

The Duraspark box as found on many Capri's - Granada's - Sierra's and so on. Go to a local scrapyard and Ill bet you find one for less.

Yess they will hook up to an American spec V8 Duraspark system.
Only have to change the two wires, as I believe purple goes to orange and vice versa.

Did run a Capri box in my F250 for several years, found out that I only had to change the two wires as this is the difference between US and European spec Duraspark systems.
Running a 6AL on my Duraspark dizzy now which maked an uge improvemend.
