just unbolt the old one and bolt the hotwire on with a new gasket. There are some small alterations you might need to make to the heating circuit depending on which hotwire you have but thats about it. Simple to do and should only take a couple of hours. Are you replacing the loom with the hotwire or new loom for the MS?

Ah ...err ... no... i have a flapper manifold, plenum and loom, i wanted to put a hotwire afm on it and wire it all to a megasquirt cna it be done or are the manifolds diffrent? would the sensors need changing? john

If your going megasquirt you dont need the AFM

Sorry but you did say change the flapper manifold to hotwire. Anyway as Tony said you don't use the AFM with MS.

Ah, superb, so a flapper injection manifold would be as easy to wire in to a megasquirt as a hotwire one ? any sign of getting the old archive up and running? john

Do they use the same inlet manifold casting for the flapper and hotwire systems ?

they are nearly the same but not quite. Flapper uses a 9th injector for cold start (not needed with MS) along with a thermotime switch for fast idle. The flapper injector socket is also different making finding new injectors harder. Horwire uses a stepper motor for fast idle but depending on which MS you have you might not be able to controle it. The injector socket is much more standard leaving a large choice of injectors. There are also other minor differences between them but nothing major that comes to mind.
Oh one last thing the flapper injectors are low impedance, again depending on the MS you have will mean using either a flyback circuit or resistors.

Thanks, it's all starting to make a bit of sense now !! i think buying a flapper to put on my car has been a bit of a waste, i think saviing up getting a hotwire system and adapting it to megasquirt would be a better all round solution, thanks for all the info, john
