I was just browsing fleaBay and looking at some top hat liners from RPI. Firstly I was a bit confused of their opinion that despite selling top hat liners they dont actually use them: "Although we do not use them ourselves, because we have no confidence in the practice of re-using internally welded up older cracked blocks - with flanged liners or not."

Hmmm. Not what most other tuners think, or in fact what V8D have prooved with their monster 5ltr+ engines etc.

Anyway, not the point. Looked in their ebay shop and they have "2007 Cosworth cast blocks" - first I've heard? Sorry but this one completely passed me by.

(Also noted they were selling rebuilt 3.5s for £1850 who buys from them lol?!)

They dont use liners because they have blocks to sell!! When they dont have blocks liners will be the best possible 100% guaranteed way to get the best block. Never heard of a cosworth cast block either I cant find it on ebay either.

Maybe they subcontracted the casting to Cosworth's renowned facility which would also allow them to mention the magic word 'Cosworth'.

Got to be worth mucho pub bhp to be able to drop the name 'Cosworth' into the conversation. The TVR boys should be gagging for it if it's true

TVR head engineering was done by a company called Urbanhurst Ltd

I used to work for a company that had Diesel heads done by the same operation.

Yeah, so essentially "TVR Stage 4" or "TVR 500" or "TVR Ultra big valve" heads etc should really be known as Urbanhurst heads, as TVR only used them on their engines.

Guess that happens across the board for companies, but as usual people tend to use whatever name will fetch the highest prices.

Naah, the RV8 isn't 'temperamental' enough to have the Ferrari name appended to it.

If so it would need to break a lot more easily and need £2k of annual service parts. You could decimate Ferrari parts operations worldwide using an engine so full of 'untempermentalness'

Re Cosworth Cast Blocks.

In the course of my search for a 4.6 engine I met an ex Landrover engineer who lived in Essex.

He told me the story about the Cosworth blocks, Landrover were so fed up with replacing upwards of 75%? of the 94-03 blocks that they contracted Cosworth to build a run of blocks for them. They were apparently made to vitually F1 standards and the liquid alloy was pumped into the moulds under very high pressure to make sure there were no bubbles in the alloy and no porosity.

So RPi are almost telling the truth, but it seems that they will criticise other peoples products, so makes a change for them to say something of theirs is not very good although of course they would prefer you to pay loads of money for one of their new blocks.
