Hello, does anyone know when the lower head bolts were deleted and on what engine size? was there ever a 3.5 with 10 head bolts?
Thanks.

Don't know if you are asking because you are trying to identify an engine but you certainly don't have to fit them even if the holes in the heads and block are there.
Mine had the outer bolts but once I re-built it I did not refit them.

Not 100% on this but so far as I am aware it goes like this:
The very late 3.9 engines (interim) used the old style heads but the outer row of bolts weren't drilled. I honestly don't know if the block had the bolt holes though.
All 4.0 and 4.6 engines left out the outer row of bolts in both the new heads they used and the block.
To my knowledge there was never a factory 3.5 or 4.2 with 10 bolt heads. That said there was a 3.5 cross bolt block that I dont think was factory, it might have used 10 bolt heads. If it was factory it was a very limited run. I think someone on here has one so can maybe confirm or deny this.

As I understand it, there were some late 3.5 blocks with the cross bolt castings, but not drilled for the crossbolts. These were used in some late LDV's. Not sure about how the top end was built up though..
Need somebody with a late ambulance to check.
Chris.
