It's come to the time where i really need to do my fuel system proper,

I am at present running an 8mm id plastic fuel line from the fuel pump (bosch 044) to a fillter on the bulk head (push on tails at mo) i am thinking of changing the filter to a banjo style filter to make the braided hose fitting easier.

Do they do a meteric fuel hose size?
ideally i want around 10mm id i think highpower told me which will be ample for feeding the engine and my nitrous system.

any one help out with hose sizes and fittings to use please,

also does any one know what the thread size is on the hotwire fuel rail? as may see if i can get a fitting for this too so can run braided from the filter to the efi rail.

cost me about £20 for 4 meters, easy to work takes a standard 10mm or 3/8" flexible hose to connect to pumps, filters, or carbs.

i use a V8 filter king pressure regulator/filter with push on as well with no problems.....

sorry can't help with the fittig sizes as I am running a carb set up....

ALL these pesky braided etc are imperial sizing. 3/8" being typical and is -6 ( 6/16" etc etc )

A -6 feed line to the front from the pump, will easily support 6-700+ with the correct pump.

I used Earls throughout, no braided stuff anywhere because I hate the sight of the damn stuff
I used the SuperStock push on stuff, plain old black rubber rated at 250psi, although I think they do blue too.
One of their other similar types, is a clamp fit, rubber hose, with a cloth overbraid, in black, looks quite nice too. I recently made a new blower oil feed from this.....quite fancy it for my fuel lines too though.

If you use an Aeromotive or SX style filter, it will likely be -10 or so fittings. You just adapt this from -10 to whatever size you need though.

On my car, I go

Tank with 5/8 hose to -10 Aero filter to -10 TEE to 2x044's to pair-6's TEE to -8 hardline alloy tube to front of car, then splitting to rails etc, then back home with a -6 return.
Not sure Id reccomend the hardline tubing, even if I dont like the stainless overbraid stuff either. hardline isnt easy to work with unless its straight runs, and the ends do need flared.

As for hotwire fuel rail.....its a weird one.

Cut the damn thing off, and weld on a -6 male thread.

If you dont want the expense of the Alloy filters, the porsche OE types will do.

This type of thing ( maybe not this exact one....but Im not sure. it prob would do fine. Go to a local motor factors and have a nosey if you can )

Not sure if they are suitable as a pre-pump filter, but defo suitable after the pump.
044's have an internal gauze anyway, so perhaps a pre-filter isnt essential.
They will have metric fittings, although I dont know what size. Pretty sure you will be able to get adaptors to JIC anyway from whatever they happen to be.

Check out www.earls.co.uk for their different hoses.

Others reccomend www.speedflow.co.uk, which are a little cheaper. Never used them myself.

if you can draw out exactly what you want on paper, it will make ordering and selection of actual parts much easier.

i have allready mailed speedflow this evening mate for their catalogue ta,
i shall go for a -6 line then from the 044 pump to the filter then mate ,
capri's sierras etc all use a threaded style filter, so i will either go via a banjo style set up, or will screw fittings in the filter and attach the pipes that way,
yeah i may end up doing what you said regarding the -6 fitting on the fuel rail.
i doubt this is going to be cheap
but will be worth it in the end me thinks.

Staying away from braided, will make it cheaper lol.

Keep as many of your fittings straight, as the angles are usually double the price, at least.

So think it through that way, and draw it out.

Id stay away from Banjo's if possible, they hurt flow, and again, more bits required, so can be more expensive than the equivalent straight+adaptor.

If the bits are out of sight, lots of them can be had in plated steel, which again will reduce costs. So dont forget that. The alloy fittings are more expensive.

On my hotwire rail, I soldered some sort of brass fitting I found, in order to attach my fuel line. I used nylon hardline tube, and a simple plumbing compression olive after that. Cheap as.

Not ideal for nylon tubing though.

I also seen this when I was in Malta at the rear of a Cossie....surprised me a little.


Interesting use of pneumatic fittings and nylon tubing ( same tubing I used , its rated at 10 bar, so will cope with fuel systems ok )
These fittings usually come in 1/8 or 1/4 BSP threads, with the relevant push in end for metric hose.
Although in this instance, they have simply used a push on 8mm Tee, and pushed it onto the 8mm steel pump output, and teed into an 8mm nylon line. This car was a white 3 door, T67 turbo, 40psi lol, and ran mid 11's, full street car, Skyline gearbox/4wd !!! These guys are mad
Nifty bits of work. Although I am a little shocked to see they work with fuel.
Such hose is very easy to route to the front of the car ( avoiding heat if possible of course )
Weld on some sort of 1/4 BSP adaptor onto the fuel rail, and it would make for a very easy pump to rail solution.
I also used nylon return line when I was RV8. Again, its easy, and this is low pressure, so normal hose and hose clips work fine.

The pre-filter is a simple mesh filter, which isn't the greatest thing - they sent the wrong thing - but it was a brand-new tank so i stuck with it.
it then goes -6 braided to the front, but thats historical - i also prefer the push on hose, cheap and neat.

I ran all my fuel lines in 8mm Steel Bundy pipe, Dead cheap from a decent Hydraulics shop or Motor Factors, you can use standard Enots compression fittings or any other for that matter, It bends nicely and you can do all your runs very neatly with a braided tail at each end

Take in a few bits and say "I need to connect this to that" They sort out the rest.

They will do braid, hydraulic, barb end, the - stuff etc.

It must be fine on petrol. Im using the very same style of fittings for my methanol injection.

we have loads of them black push fittings at work,
we use 8mm x 8mm straight joiners
we even have 10mm x 8mm straight reducers too.
you recon they will be ok then?
if so i have another roll of 10mm black nylon tubing here,

I think my only concern, would be how to attach to the fuel rail.

But if you could either weld on an adaptor, or adapt it down to 10mm OD steel, then you should be sorted.

Lots of OE cars use nylon tubing for their fuel lines anyway. Perhaps not everywhere, but in some areas, and I defo did when I first EFI'd my RV8 in the black car.

i need to go from the pump to the filter and attach to this some how,
then from filter to the rail,
im using rubber hose to attach to filter and rail but it looks messy etc with jubilee clips every where.

Im sure you could get some metric to BSP/NPT adaptors, to allow the attachment of nylon hose.

oh rite,
when i asked at my local hydraulics place last year they said sorry no,
i had to make up an ugly fitting on the pump to take the nylon too, which im not happy about,
thus why i was going to go the braided route with pucker fittings.
