Idle Control Valve + Megasquirt

Do I actually need to have an idle control valve, or will it be a pain to drive normally without one?
Secondly, how do I configure/wire one up to work with megasquirt? Looks like there is some connector needed for the control valve (which I dont have yet) . . . ?
thanks

depends which one. Personally I like the bimetallic version that the flapper engines used. It works and it is completely passive.
The stepper motor setup that later engines used can be driven by MS2, but TBH is not worth the bother. If you must go ECU controlled a ford PWM based unit is the best bet.

Er, well I have two Saab ones courtesy of Gav. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible as this is my first attempt and I dont want to get confused.
Passive sounds good though - can I just bolt on a flapper idle control valve thing on then? That would be sooo much easier!

You dont strictly need one - ive not had one for a few years. Just need to keep the throttle open a bit more for the first 10 seconds or so.
