hiya all,

At what temp should the auxiliary air valve be totally closed.

Please dont say operating temp...

Mines showing 82degc and its still partially open.

Will or should it be closed at 60-70degc?

cheers

Scott, In short, the Extra Air Valve requires two heat sources to close fully. A 12 volts supply to its heating coil from the Fuel Pump Relay but grounded under control of the ECU, AND manifold temperature above 60-70C.

In your case:
The 12 volt supply is missing, or
The ECU is not grounding the Coil, or
The electrical plug is disconnected, or
The coil has burned out.

The 2 pin electrical connection socket can be clearly seen on this image

Description and test process is on page 4 item 12 of the PDF available here:

Its circuit is shown on the temporary image available here:

ramon,

I have removed the valve and ran the engine when hot (82degc).

The engine finally ran sweet and watching the rev counter, hardly moved.

So i know the auxiliary air valve is the last of my problems to solve - finally.

I've took the valve to bits, drilling out the rivets....and tried to adjust the valve somehow.

But whatever is do it wont be fully closed at the right temp, you can push the small pin left-right and this opens-closes the slot slightly.

If i get it to be closed when its hot then, it will only be 10% open when cold.

And same the other way, when its fully open cold, then it wont close fully when hot.

Time to source a new value me thinks.

Atleast i know i am just about through all the problems i've had.

thanks

scott

hiya all,

Anyone know where to get a new one of these extra air valves from.

Looks like mines goosed and i need a new one, none on the usual ebay.

Unless any second hand dealers might have one....anyone suggest a good place to look.

cheers

scott

actually just thought there is a couple of these in my garage but they belong 2.8 capri injection. Looks identical but I don,t know if its the same. If you can find out if it is then you can have one.

Hello,

Read that on RPI Website about extra air valve on Flapper injection. But don't try myself.

Just a short note to let you know that the Jaguar Extra Air valve solved the idling problem... The Range Rover air valve seemed to be working okay - it just didn't give enough air flow to the engine when cold so I'd advise this mod for any flapper type system. Especially if the engine has increased capacity.

Hi Scott,
I've plenty of good second hand ones here at £10.00 each + p/p , if you're interested.
